Cannot install win 7, Setup was unable to create a new

Sorry for the bad title =/.

Ive had numerous problems trying to install windows 7 ultimate signature edition (Party Pack). First was BSOD half-way through install, second was windows 7 could not see the hard drive. I fixed those problems throughout the day yesterday.

Now I have this problem when I select the Hard Drive in the setup.

System was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing partition. See the Setup log files for more information

Ive basically got 3 hard drives in my computer:
20GB Quantum Fireball
149GB Maxtor 6G160E0 - The one I would prefer to install on.
149GB ATA ST3160811AS - Partitioned into a 103GB Media Partition and 46GB Unallocated space.

Ive tried installing on each partition/hard drive, but everytime I get the same message. Ive also tried formatting al the hardrives via gParted (Live CD) and Win 7 formatter.

Please help!!! I would really like to host my windows 7 party, but without windows 7 it wouldnt really work.

EDIT: Ive managed to fix this problem by doing the following:
1) Format to NTFS in gParted
2) Try to install on the hard drive in Win 7 setup - recieve error message
3) Format partition 2 times
4) Delete partition
5) Create new partition
6) Install works =/

Is this just a fluke, or is there a reason? Ill see how far I get before another error.

Hi Tim and welcome to Seven Forums.

For some reference info check this: Questions to use for help with Installation Issues

Please fill in your system specs, this will help us to narrow it down, instead of guessing.

There have been installation problems with bad burns to DVD. You have the MS DVD correct? If yes this can hopefully be ruled out.

It might help to un-plug the other HDs, Just keep the one your installing to.
Is the HD your trying to install on a SATA?

There have been some reports of taking out RAM, if you have more than 2GB, that might allow the install to proceed.

Are you dual booting?

Any Over Clocking of the RAM or CPU?

Remove everything not essential to loading Windows 7, from the system. No printers, gamepads, second monitors, scanners, external devices, flash drives etc., keep only the monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Dual Monitors?

Let us know this info and we'll try to help.

Congrats on the signature edition.

Glad you got it to work friend. Let us know if you find out any more information on the diagnostics of the drive. I'm wondering if there was something wrong with the partition information that was throwing it off.

Well the problem came back, because the install failed and I had to reinstall .
I've copied and pasted the information from that post, I hope it will aid both me and you guys to help me figure out the problem!

Current Operating System, pre-install

• Do you have a single OS on your computer, are you planning on multi-booting with this installation?

4 Hard Drives - Though 2 of them are tempramental, I have tried installing with only 1 plugged in.

1, IDE

• Any external HDs used?
Yes, but have tried installing with the External HD unplugged

• Are they connected by USB or eSATA?

Cant do this, its not installed =p

Overclocking my 1.66GHz dual-core to 2.66Ghz

Try it with these changes.

1. One SATA HD connected.
2. Reset your CPU to standard settings, you can overclock it after the install is complete.
3. If your RAM is overclocked reset it as well.

How much RAM do you have installed?
If more than 2GB, take some out until you have max 2GB left.

If the above doesn't work run a memory check and hard disk check from a rescue CD if you have one.

If these adjustments don't help, try using the USB key to install with, might be a DVD drive issue. Or, try another DVD drive if you have access to one.

What graphics card do you have?

Now it can see the Hard Drive (Just refreshed it), and started the installation. I left it, and when it restarted (during install) it got the the Windows Loader Screen, said there was an error and I needed to use the repair on the CD. I tried that, bu the CD repair cannot find my OS installation.

Interesting, Ive taken out a GB of RAM to reduce RAM to 2GB. I also reset CPU to default speed. This did nothing.
I unplugged all the other Hard Drives, and now the setup cannot find my Hard Drive. I've got no drivers for it either.
The thing is, it could see it before. And the MB can see it. =/

At least progress has been made.

Try this method to get to Device Manager from Installation:

How to Access Device Manager During the Installation of Windows 7

Start from the 'Now for Safe Mode:' section, see if you can find the culprit.

Check for any yellow triangles.

We're getting closer.

Is your rig an OEM or self built?

Check your RAM voltage requirements and what the MOBO is giving it.

Have you updated your BIOS?

What setting for AHCI/Raid/IDE in BIOS?

If all the above fails, try a different hard drive.
