Hello,

I hope someone can help me stop pulling my hair out. I buy parts and build my own comps. Figured I'd go with windows 7, 64 bit version this time. I built the comp, everything looks good, had plans of SLI two ot three graphic cards but I did not receieve any SLI Bridge with this or the prvious 3 Asus boards I've bought.

My system,
Intel Core i5-750 2.66Ghz 8M LGA1156 CPU
ASUS P7P55D Pro Intel P55 Socket LGA1156 MB
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit DVD OEM
Cooler Master ATX SLI ready case
Corsair 4GB DDR3 PC12800 1600MHz (2x2GB) Class 9
WD VelociRaptor 300GB SATA HD 10K/16MB/SATA-3
ULTRA X4 1050W POWER SUPPLY MODULAR
EVGA GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 Superclocked 896MB X 2
ASUS DVD another brand DVD RW.

I have tried 3 different ribbons, 4 different DVD players none work, tried master/slave/cs all combos, no lights come up as the comp beeps once and boots to CMO's /BIO's no problem. I found if I unplug the IDE ribbon and leave the power plug in they light up and want to work. But they are no good to me without the ribbon so I can't load Windows.

When I go into the Boot Priority, everything is in parenthesis and will not let me change the boot configuration.

I obviously only have one grahics card in as I did not get a SLI Bridge anyway.....even if I did I would wait till it was running.

My BIO's is,
BIO's version, 0209
BIO's build date 7/28/09
EC BIO's version, MBEC-0027

Someone please help me get this so I can load windows 7 !

Okay to start,
You have a decent machine,
WHY didnt you get sata devices?

Okay down to the help part of this,
Set both of the dvd drives to CS (cable select).

It sounds like you have an IDE issue on your MoBO,
(This is because since its refusing to boot with the IDE cable plugged in)
I will suggest this solution here to you. Video: Install Windows 7 from a USB flash drive | TR Dojo | TechRepublic.com

Well first, I had two DVD'S sitting here from another machine that were not that old so I figured I'd put them into this machine, hate to throw away anything that works. I have quad Core also, that has two and I tried those from it. I guess I just figured why buy something I already have. It's been a while since I built a new system I must admit and I'm trying to get these two online before a 3.8 Pent 4 I built 5 years ago dies on me. Thats been a great nongaming comp but is starting to give me problems. Just dowloading email the CPU over heat alarm has started to come on until the email is downloaded. It's time for new. It's tired.

I have tried every jumper setting combination to no avail. I just never seen anything like it before. I had seen the install from a USB Flash drive and have one coming, just incase I could not get the DVD to work.

I will though take your advice and order Sata DVD's for this comp, looks like after Christmas now lol.

Thank you, I'm at least further ahead than I was.

You have a Merry and Happy Holidays!

Rich

Rabjr1961,
Sorry about the delayed reply,
My side job in the PC repair/build kinda had a spurt.
My new server parts came in and it was consumed over 27 of my free time hours over the past 3 days.
I have not had much time for the forums.

In regards to the overheat alarm get a nice can of compressed air, and blow ou the cpu fan and heat sink.
and check to make sure the fan is still functional.

In regards to my why didnt you get sata. I just did the same thing for my server. I had 2 ide DVD drives laying around so one is now my server's drive :P.

But let me know how it works out for you :)

Check your IDE connections and make sure that the pins are not mis-aligned or squashed. Try using only one DVD drive. Check your BIOS and make sure the settings are for IDE drive. Are the DVD drives showing up in POST screen?

READ the motherboard manual again, if you need to. Just because you put together computers in the past doesn't mean things haven't changed. The new BIOS these days are little more trickier.

You just MAY have a bad motherboard too, it does happen you know.

Got a 8GB FLASH Drive, followed this video and man, it worked like a charm, once I went into Bio's and pointed it to Removable Storage dev for boot up. Think it took 15 maybe 20 minutes to load win7.:D

Yes mckillwashere, sorry, was so excited I finally got this machine up and running that I forgot to thank you for the advice. I believe for now on thats the way I'll load Windows for sure unless they change something new down the road.

Everything looks good and I actually loaded my MB DVD the same way. I saw DVD/CD ROM files and wonder if now the IDE Primary will work, after Christmas I plan to try and see.

Only problem I have run into is SLI'ing the two GTX 260's. I follow instuctions but the thing I am supposed to click on is greyed out and unable to click it. I did down load and install the lasted drivers. Win 7 is a litle different and I have not found the device manager yet but everything else I seen, only shows one card, I've never SLI'd a system before so am a newbee to this. I would think 2 cards would show somewhere not just one card. If I can figure that out and get both card working, I'll be in like flint.

Again, thanks for the link to video, was so easy even a Caveman could do it!:D
