I have 4 important updates and 1 optional update I have been trying to install for some weeks now and cannot seem to find an answer anywhere and anything that I do does not work .

I thought it was a problem with Silverlight and have uninstalled it and I still cannot install updates and cannot install Silverlight at all now.

The updates currently are :
Important
1.) Office Live add-in 1.5
2.) Power Point Viewer 2007 Service Pack 2 (SP2)
3.) Security Update for Microsoft Office 2007 (KB951550)
4.) Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB951944)

Optional
1.) Microsoft Silverlight (KB982926)

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium x64 , the errors I keep coming up with everytime I try to install updates are : CODE 643 and CODE 57E

I have tried to research these codes and follow their directions but they do not work , I have tried some of the fixes found here , hotfixes , deleting of the silverlight registry key , microsoft fix it , disabling of antivirus and firewall and none of it seems to work .
I could care less about any optional updates but I generally like to install any and all important updates .

Usually I can research these things and fix them on my own but on these I have become stumped , Is there anyone here that may be able to help me out ? because at this point I am lost

Hi -- Sometimes things just get fouled up. If you can remember the approximate date you started having the problem, go to System Restore and restore before that date and try to install the updates again.

My restore points only go back as far as 9/11/10 and the problem has been occurring before them so I do not think that will help .

I went to the Microsoft information page for two of the updates (KB951550 and KB951944) just to see what it says.

Security Update for 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB951550)
Date Published:11/7/2008
Supported Operating Systems:Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1;Windows Vista;Windows XP Service Pack 2

Download details: Security Update for 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB951550)

Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB951944)
Date Published:9/9/2008
Supported Operating Systems:Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1;Windows Vista;Windows XP Service Pack 2

Download details: Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB951944)

From the looks of it you wouldn't need these update on your machine. Assuming you actually have 2007 Office installed, it's possible (probable?) that a later update incorporated both of these. I didn't have time to check the others but you might find similar results. That raises the question why would MS say you need them? I don't have an answer for that.

I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed so please forgive me if you've already tried / considered these. What version of Silverlight did you have installed? What version were you trying to reinstall? Do you have .NET Framework installed? (I believe Silverlight requires it.) Have you tried a 3rd party uninstaller like Revo? Have you done the usual housekeeping chores like cleaning temp files, etc? I'm kinda grasping at straws here so again, my apologies.

Ok , have downloaded and installed Revo , obviously there were more registry keys left over from Silverlight than the Microsoft knowledge base informed me of , Revo found more , deleted all instances on Silverlight and reinstalled Silverlight successfully !

The only updates I am left with are now just the updates for MS Office you are telling me that are not required by my system , then why is Windows update telling me that they are ????

Great news on the Silverlight!! As far as the Office updates, I'm guessing that you've already installed newer updates that have incorporated those earlier updates from 2008. Microsoft might have simply neglected to update their data base. From personal experience, I have Power Point Viewer 2007 installed. I do not have MS Office. Every so often I'll get notified of an update that has to do with the actual Office suite of products which includes Power Point. The updates I'm offered don't have anything to do with the Viewer. I chalk it up to human error.

One other suggestion you might want to try. There's a company called Secunia that monitors updates for a lot of products. Try their free PSI (personal software inspector) and let it scan your machine. If it doesn't indicate any problems with your Office, I'd say you're good to go. If it confirms you need those updates, then I'd get with Microsoft Support to discuss why you can't install them. And Secunia might find other software on your machine that need updates.

I've never heard about any global bugs relate to these Office updates so I suspect something is corrupted in installations files, registry.I would recommend completely reinstall Office,if unable uninstall Office through Programs & Features than use official remover How do I uninstall Office 2003, Office 2007 or Office 2010 suites if I cannot uninstall it from Control Panel?
