Hi. Last year I wanted to record a song off of my computer. I fixed the setting to do that. Now I cannot figure out how to return the setting's speakers to work to pic up external sounds.

i don't know. After reading your reply, i went back to the microphone settings and have been trying to figure out what I changed. All I know is that I read some instruction on a site last year that went step by step on how to change the mic to pic up internal sound. I followed the steps and now cannot get it to pic up external sounds.

So you set it to record what would normally be pushed through to your speakers?

Can you see your microphone in the list under the "Recording" tab in your sound settings?

If that's the one you're using, yes. Does it have a green checkmark by it?

Ok. If you right click inside the tab and click "show disabled devices" and "show disconnected devices", does anything new show up?

Oh I already did that. I clicked "show disabled" since the other was already clicked. Nothing new came up.

But these are the ones that appear under recording along with their statuses:

Headest Microphone - Disconnected
Integrated Microphone Array - Default Device
External Mic - Ready
Stereo Mix - Currently unavailable

Ok, so when you make sound, does a green bar rise and fall next to the integrated mic?

Ok. Then click on the start menu, move the cursor to "computer", right click, then click "manage". A UAC will pop up, click "yes". Then a window will open, and in the left side panel, click "Device Manager". Is anything there listed with an exclamation point or question mark next to it?

The "bluetooth peripheral device" under "other devices" has an exclamation mark but that would not affect the microphone would it?

i tried to update drivers for that and it said none were available.

It probably isn't the microphone. Do you have another mic to plug in to see if that one works?

Ok. Try going to the start menu, then typing "cmd". Right click on the command prompt and click "run as administrator". Then type "sfc /scannow". It will take some time.
