Cannot merge undo disk into vhd

I am running Windows 7 x64. I have several VM's I use for demos of our products. With undo disks enabled I am unable to ever apply the changes so that they are merged into the "vhd". When I try I get "The virtual undo disks failed to merge. An unexpected error has occurred." What gives? Anyone have any ideas on this one?
Thanks,
RA

P.S. I am the owner of all files. They are all in the same directory on my laptop.

First off this seems to be because the original vhd was created on XP. The way I fixed this was to "Turn off undo disks" which lost all my changes. Then reboot the VM and apply the code changes I wanted. Then shut down the VM which applied the changes to the vhd. Now go into setting and turn "undo disks" back on. From this point forward undo disks seem to work properly and can be applied when desired.
