Cannot Open DVD drive

I just got my new laptop this evening and I cannot get the DVD drive to open. Have a Dell xps and opted for the blueray dvd drive. When I press the button the light comes on and I can hear it trying to do something. I've tried right clicking on the drive in the menu and selecting "eject" but an error message pops up "an error occurred while ejecting 'BD-ROM Drive (D'" I have also tried sticking a paperclip into the manual eject slot, all to no avail.

Anyone have any clue what the issue is/how to resolve it?

Hi,

Normally the paper-clip does the trick since the mechanism is mechanical.....give it a good hard push. Failing that, time to return to manufacterer

problem solved, just need to pry it open with a fingernail after I press the button, it's just catching on the housing or something. what a relief, worried that it was all messed up already. Thanks for the quick reply

if its brand new, i would call dell to report the defect. chances are, it will happen again. get it fixed while it is still under warrenty.

If you bought it at retail store today I'd return it tomorrow.

This is no good way of operating it. And it must open with the "Eject" command. I would return the darn thing.
