I have a Windows 7 Professional PC. Last year I had Noteworthy [for composing music] and Polderbits [R.I.P.] to record the file. Press Play on Noteworthy and Record on Polderbits and all was well. Late last year I had a system problem which required a complete re-install of Windows 7 and manual installation of programs. In the process I lost Poldebits. I now have NCH Audio Essentials. Now, when I try to play from Noteworthy and record to RecordPad Sound Recorder I get the error response "RecordPad cannot open the sound device for recording. Check you have selected the correct Sound Record Device in Settings."

The only things listed are 2 microphones and a Line-in, all external devices, alll greyed out, which I never needed to use before. Can anyone help me resolve my problem? Please can responders bear in mind I am a 70-year old non-techie' - I just press the buttons!

Hi Johnhoh,

I have tried the Noteworthy Configuring and still no improvement. I also followed the processes for Configuring the Sound Card. Still no joy.

I also get the same response when I try using Audacity. I think the reinstall of WIN 7 must have caused a fault which I don't understand. I think I shall have to spend mega-pounds and get the PC looked at. I don't want to get rid of it because I prefer WIN 7 over WIN 20. C'est la vie.

I tried the Asus link as suggested. In Firefox the result was endless Tabs opening! In IE I managed to download the file, but when I opened it I was confronted with multi-options which left me bamboozled. Using just the offered suggestions I tried to download updates but ASUS could not connect to the internet - not a problem I have ever experienced.

This is getting beyond my beenie brain. As I said earlier, I am a non-techie - I haven't a clue what goes on 'behind the scenes'. I shall have to bite the bullet and pay someone to check my system out. Thanks for your help thus far

maybe it will be easier to only install your audio driver.

http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/audio/VIA_Audio_V6019500_XPVistaWin7.zip

when it asks what you want to do select Open File. This will download the zip file to your computer and open it.

After it downloads you should see the option to Extract files. Click extract. It will ask you where to extract, select whatever it says. Just make sure you click "show extracted files when complete". Then click Next

Now you will have a folder of newly extracted files. Click on it to see the files. One of them will be named Setup, or Asussetup, or Install. Click on it and follow the prompts.

These are the same steps to follow with that first asus live update link a few posts earlier

Thanks again Johnhoh, but my luck is still not good. The file loaded into my PC but when I ran it the process failed. It is now 1937 UK time and I am tired and weary. I shall try again tomorrow with fresh eyes and mind and see if I can get the process to work.

Your halp is much appreciated. Rgds
