Solved Cannot perform downloads after routine clean-up in Win 7

I performed my usual by-weekly computer clean-up, updating, etc and now I cannot download anything. When I click on the download button on whatever website that I may be on a dislpay tab flashes on but immediately disappears and nothing happens.

Prior to doing my routine clean-up I did uninstall 'Google Chrome' and re-installed IE 9. I ran into a few hiccups but resolved them all and everything seems to be working OK except that I cannot download anything.

Can anyone offer me any suggestions.

What do you use to clean?

Could you elaborate on the hiccups?

It looks like you've wiped out your config/settings when cleaning.

Have you been in IE's settings to re-confirm the download location?

I've had this problem before, but the fix is eluding me atm. Sorry.

Hello smarteyeball:
I used the windows 'internet options' browser delete with all the boxes checked off. Plus I used BitDefender 'TuneUp' and selected the 'PC Clean-Up' option which basically does the same thing as the internet options.

I also ran the BitDefender 'Registry Cleaner'.

I have confirmed the IS settings for the correct download location.

Thanks

I would not use any Registry cleaner except CCleaner at defaults. All others cause problems with Win7, often fatal.

You should not need any such cleaning if you have adequate hardware and are running a perfect install as provided in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

If you use the tools and methods in the blue link then you'll get and keep a perfect install for as long as you do.

Thanks for the advice.

I have solved my problem by re-installing IE9. Now I can download files again.
