Also when I do get it working can I un-install EasyBCD?

Is this HD in the same computer installed with another version of Windows i.e. Win7 or Vista?

If you've installed XP on the same computer with other HDs that have Vista or 7 it would overwrite the boot area of the initial OS installed. Are you trying to Dual Boot?

You don't mention any other OS's, but let's assume you have Win7 since you posted here.

Boot into Win7 DVD, select Repair My computer on second screen, then click through to Recovery Tools and run Startup Repair up to three separate times to repair or recover the Win7 boot.

When you get Win7 started, post back a screenshot of full Disk Management drive map, using Snipping Tool in Start Menu.

If Win7 will not start after running DVD Startup Repair 3 separate times with reboot, burn to CD bootable Partition Wizard, boot into it, choose 1 for screen resolution, then right click Win7 partition to Modify>Set to Active. Apply steps.

Now boot into Win7 DVD again and Run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times to start Win7 and post back Disk Mgmt screenshot.

Did you move or otherwise adjust your hard drives? You might check the bios and make sure the original primary drive is still primary.
