Solved cannot rename folder

Am using Windows 7. When I set up a new folder in my documents, and try to rename it, it reverts to 'new folder'.

You might see if this may be able to fix this for you. It's for Vista, but is the same in Windows 7.

'Registry Editor
Not all data was successfully written to the registry. Some keys are open by the System or other processes.'

That's ok. It just means that it was able to merge some of the registry entries in the downloaded .reg file since those entries have not had their permissions been changed in your registry to allow it. That's good. I just added them to be safe.

Be sure to restart the computer afterwards to fully apply to see if it may help afterwards.

Re-booted but still does not work. While I said folder was in My Documents, it is in Favourites.

Does this only happen in that folder, or everywhere?

For now, download and merge the .reg files for the Folder and Directory options in the tutorial below to see if it may help. It will restore the default associations for folders.

Getting too complicated for me, to many file extensions and don't know one from the other.
Warnings scare me too.
Can't rename files in My Documents or Favourites.

Just download the one with the big blue ribbon, and scroll down to the Directory one and download it, just two of them.

EDIT: Sorry I see it has many reg files, click then one at a time and add to the registry.

You would just need to scroll down past the steps in the tutorial until you see the listed file extensions. Next, only click on the Folder and Directory links to download their .reg file. Afterwards merge them as per the steps in the tutorial.

Do I do all 100 or so default file extensions? Did do Default_REG.
