Solved Canoscan LiDE 35 Windows 7 64bit driver

I'd like to add that Scoutfu's solution with CanoScan Toolbox 4.9 works fine with Windows 8.1 too! Just installed it and am so proud of myself! I looooove my CanoScan LIDE 35 scanner. In a nutshell: Environment 1 - Canon 0!

Hi

I have followed the instructions, but when I want to update the driver with the .inf file, it says that the folder does not contain compatible software. Is there a solution for this?

Kind regards

Ulrik

Ohhhh Scoutfu you're the best !! Even FIVE YEARS after the initial post, your intructions mostly apply very well, at least in its principle and with the help of several posts following yours my good ol'CanoScan Lide 35 was installed and working again... ten years after initial install on WinXP Home!

I managed to have the Toolbox 4.9 working on Windows 7 Pro SP1 64 bit, after the error "Cannot connect to device or TWAIN source not found" when trying to scan from the Toolbox, by applying the recommendation to add "c:\Windows\twain_32\CNQL60\" (preceded by a semicolon) at the end of the PATH system environment variable.

Note: when I downloaded the Toolbox from the links available on the initial post, the 4.5 version installer was offered from a web page in Italian or Spanish (or alike), and the installer too. So I was happy I could actually make the 4.9 english version working :-)

Kudos to all for keeping this thread alive and updated for the various Windows versions (while Canon Support let us down on this so long ago). GG user base ! :-)

Yep! I first used Scoutfu's instructions to get my Lide35 working with Win7 about 2 years ago. Recently the scanner went bye-bye for reasons unknown, even though I still had the correct driver and Toolbox 4.9 installed, and I just could not get it working again. Relocated this thread, went through the instructions from the beginning, and voila! It's a scanner again!
Thanks again, Scoutfu!

Nothing works

I have Win-7-64 and Canon MF5770. I tried all instructions (many times every which way) nothing works:

"Go to your Device Manager (right click Computer - select Manage) - Dont get this option at all

Plug in the scanner so you can see it pop up in the Device Manager

Right click it, Update / Install driver

Select Browse my computer for driver then Let me pick from a list of drivers, just select 'All' then click OK
Select Have Disk then Browse and select the CNQL60.INF file inside the SetupSG folder."

I downloaded and extracted the file lide60vst6411111a_64en - SetupSG/CNQL60.INF
But I do have my scanner listed in Device Manager/other Devices - with yellow tag:cry:
- I pick the listed device and able to make windows - update device driver / go to SetupSG folder folder - I do have the INF file there - but windows does not pick it up. What do I do?

If I try Imaging Device/Scan for changes - Windows finds nothing:rolleyes: - so I am unable to do anything there.

Does not work

I found/downloaded this new driver: Canon_iC_MF5730_300_64 - this driver windows installs - puts the device in the Imaging Devices but then Toolbox 4.9 does not recognize the scanner still:o
My scanner is MF5700 not Lide35 - so if all the above instructions were for Lide only, then maybe I have been on the wrong track/thread all along.

Solved Finally

So this driver Canon_iC_MF5730_300_64 that I installed is recognized by widows Fax/Scanner (not Toolbox). So I can finally scan from my Win7/64 bit - this scanner app does not give the PDF option - but at least it works.:geek:

(So I think I can finally retire my dying/dead win7-32 HP-Netbook - I had to keep it alive just to scan - once in a while(like once in 6 months). This HP Netbook Atom processor is a very sad painful story:sick:- about a machine that never ever worked - but it did scan - very (very) slowly - but it did. RIP now.)

Thanks all,

No love

I've got the driver installed, but no matter if it's version 5, 4.9, or 4.5 of CanoScan Toolbox, I still get the "Unable to select TWAIN source". I've also tried to add %SystemRoot%\twain_32\CNQL60 to my environment path, with no success. Bummer.

Also tried the iC MF5730 driver, again with no success.

unable to select TWAIN source (setting link problem?)

Hi,

I figured out how to get this scanner to work in Vista 64 about a year ago and have now got it working in Windows 7 x64. So in case you didn't see my Vista post i thought I'd post it in here also.

It uses the Canoscan LiDE 60 scanner 64bit driver:

Files required: Winrar, lide60vst6411111a_64en. Canoscan Toolbox 4.9 or 4.5

Use Winrar, right click the file and select Extract to lide60vst6411111a_64en\

Open the folder it creates 'ide60vst6411111a_64en'

Inside the folder you'll find SetupSG.exe, extract it the same way again and you will find the driver

Go to your Device Manager (right click Computer - select Manage)

Plug in the scanner so you can see it pop up in the Device Manager

Right click it, Update / Install driver

Select Browse my computer for driver then Let me pick from a list of drivers, just select 'All' then click OK

Select Have Disk then Browse and select the CNQL60.INF file inside the SetupSG folder.

It will say that it isnt the correct driver and may not work..... but its lying ;)

~ CanoScan Toolbox ~

If you do not install this it won't work.

I use version 4.9 which can be found here
If you get the "Unable to select TWAIN source" error then try version 4.5

Install was the CanoScan Toolbox, it will ask you to reboot, do so and you're done

Just thought id make this a bit clearer.
==============================================================================

Scoutfu,

I have an old scanner CanoScan LiDE 30 and plan to use this with Windows 7 home premium 64-bit OS.

I have installed the LiDE60 using same instructions and also installed toolbox 4.9 (after multiple install of 5.0, 4.9, 4.5 and 4.1) and eventually rebooted but keep getting the error message "unable to select TWAIN source" especially when setting the link ... I have no photoshop software / program to link said scanner ... still can't get the scanner to work ... please help ...

Following the threads in this forum, I also added the string "%SystemRoot%\twain_32\CNQL60" to the environment path but to no avail. I must be missing a step ? Please help. Thanks in advance.

Hi people,

I find it rather amusing that 5 years on I am still getting notifications for this thread :D

I haven't used this scanner for a long time and I'm not entirely sure where it went. I vaguely remember giving it my mum which could be a problem as things her her possession have a habit of disappearing from existence

If I can figure out where it is I will try to install it again to see whether I encounter any of the problems some of you are having.

Regards,

ScoÜtfu

Doesnt work for me

If I extract the SetupDG.exe file and then point the canonscan scanner detected in device manager to use it, it just perpetually says that it either cant find the driver or the location doesnt contain a driver for the device.

I've just tried extracting both files and driver is clearly there in the root of SetupDG called "CNQL60.INF". Follow the instructions exactly to force it to install.

Don't get me wrong - I wasn't saying the driver file wasn't there. I was saying that if you try to point windows to using it, it refuses and says the required driver is not in that location

Hi There,

I just registered to say thank you for the original poster scoutfu for the great tip that brought my Lide 35 scanner back to life! Beside this I want to extend it with additional tricks, because I see it still does not work out of the box for many others (just like me). One year ago I installed it on Win7 (64 bit) with smaller issues, now in Win 8.1 with major issues - but both can be solved.

The basics are the same, download the driver for Lide 60 from the official Canon website; Win7 64 bit driver will work for both Win7 and Win8.1 (don't know about Win10).

driver named lide60vst6411111a_64en.exe

For me the Canon toolbox and Winrar were not needed, the image software I use (FastStone - give it a try, it's free and great!) can deal with it, if the driver is correctly installed. Instead of Winrar I used 7zip's context menu item in Total Commander.

Unzip the downloaded driver (2 steps) as per the original post. The result is 3 directories, plus an .inf file along with a readme.

Plug in the scanner to an usb port. Go to the Device Manager part of Windows, select your scanner (probably it will appear with a yellow sign), refresh the driver by pointing to the extracted .inf file. This is exactly as per the original post. If successful, happiness and sunshine.

If not: in both Win7 & Win8.1 I found that during pointing to the .inf file at driver refreshing stage, Windows told me that no appropriate driver was found (just like previous posters). This is because the hardware ID of my scanner was not exactly the same as stated in the .inf file. You can check your hardware ID in the Device Manager, where you would refresh your driver, on the next tab probably called Details (I have Hungarian Windows), by selecting Harddware ID or similar. It looks like VID_04a9&PID_221C.

The .inf file have to contain the same info in order Windows to match it during install. So edit the .inf file with a text editor (not Word), look for the hardware ID in an early section, adjust it to your exact hardware ID (it appears in two consecutive lines). Save the .inf file, try again the driver refreshing part in your Device Manager. This adjustment was enough for me in Win7 (I changed VID_04a9&PID_221C to VID_04a9&PID_2213).

In Win8.1 this step above was necessary but not enough: it began installing, but then told me that some component was missing, the driver package is broken. After one hour I almost gave it up, but the following link gave me an idea:

During the driver refreshing procedure instead of pointing to the .inf file directly, select the Available drivers on the Computer (or similar) option: from the list select Scanners, then Canon Inc, then Lide 60. It will warn you about compatibility issues - just go ahead. Some seconds later the scanner awakened. Very probably the first, unsuccessful attempt was needed for the Lide 60 to appear on the list.

God bless You Canon for this great support of old devices! :p

How to solve the missing TWAIN driver issue

I followed the steps here to get my LiDE 35 recognized by my 64 bit Win 7 Pro machine.

That got it to see the scanner and have it make its wakeup sounds, but I was still getting errors saying I was missing a TWAIN driver.

One program got a bit more specific, saying that a particular file was missing from my installation: RMSLANTC.DLL

I did a web search for that file and found another problem-solving site like this, which advised:

(1) use Device Manager to look at the list of drivers installed with the scanner, which shows the path to each file (it was indeed on my hard drive), and

(2) add that folder to the system path.

It gives screen shots showing how to look inside the driver list (where that file is shown, with the complete path) and how to put that path into the system path:
Canon scanner error ”Can’t find rmslantc.dll | aaron-kelley.net
I followed those instructions and all of my programs were able to use my LiDE 35 under TWAIN.

I had to improvise a bit because the way to get to these places was not exactly as described in that post.

The starting point for both steps is to open Control Panel.

To get to the driver list, you open Devices and Printers, right-click on CanoScan, choose Properties and then on the Hardware tab you click the button for Properties. Then go to the Driver tab, where you'll find the list of drivers in a scrollable window. Copy the complete path to the file into Notebook or something like it.

To add the path to the folder that contains that file (and several others), you go back to the Control Panel and click on the System icon. On the left, Advanced System Settings is on the left. Click that. On the Advanced tab, click the Environment Variables button. The panel that comes up will have two windows, the lower one being System variables. Click the Edit button under that, and scroll down to the Path variable. At the end of what's already there, add a semicolon followed by the path to the folder that contains the file complained about. Since there are other files in that folder that might be needed, don't specify the missing file, just the folder.

OK your way out.

You can confirm that you've successfully added that folder to the path by opening a command window by typing cmd into the run box on the Start button, and then typing Path into the window that opens, which should respond by printing the system path to the screen

That solved the problem for me.
