Solved Can't access 1 out of 3 partitions on HDD

Hello

I have a problem with a harddrive I'm trying to fix for a friend of mine. When it was in her laptop I couldn't enter windows 7, just stuck on a blue windows screen (Not BSOD just windows background) with mouse cursor.
Then I tried putting in a Windows 7 disc, boot from that and try to repair, when entering repair I got a stuck at the screen again (waited for an hour).
Figured it was Windows acting up so I unplugged the HD and put it into my computer as an external HDD. I got 3 partitions, PQService (12 GB), System Reserved (100 MB) and Local Disc (RAW). When mousing over or clicking on the Local Disc the whole system just goes into super slowmotion with everything that concerns harddrive data. And Computer/Explorer is just stuck there (I can open other explorer windows as long as they don't have anything to do with harddrives).

Pretty darn weird I thought, figured I would try a Chkdsk in elevated CMD, so I did a chkdsk H: /f, and it just stuck with a blinking "_" nothing else happens.
Figured I would try testdisk to try and write the partition table in case it had been corrupted seeing as it is a RAW partition (Or it looks like one, I can't verify in Disc Management since that's stuck in verifying virtual disc).
I managed after a lot of waiting to get it into HD Tune Pro, did an error scan and everything was OK, but nothing shows in the Health tab, I mean the tab is completly blank

So what's a guy a to do with this HD? I mean the other partitions I can enter for some wird reason, PQService partition works just fine

i suck with the RAW names and such. But i have been fixing a lot of harddrives lately and i''ve come up with a pattern where if the drive says RAW your computer cant access it without formating it. So if she doesent have any important files and you can reinstall windows 7 try to remove all partitions and do a full format on the disc. if you cant remove the partitions then format it and then try removing them and format the disc again. If she has important data or you cant reinstall windows well,, Sorry cant help

I've managed to access the Raw partition using TestDisk and can now enter it again, however I still can't get it to function proberly because the Windows files on it are corrupt. I need to run some Chkdsk, SFC commands on it, but without the Windows 7 recovery disc for it, it's hard to enter the repair console.

Still. is it important info on it? otherwise just remove the partitions and format the whole thing, Formating fixes pretty much everything

Ohh... Well. i cant really help you then. Dont know very much about harddrives

You can always run Linux Mint off a flash drive to explore the entire hard drive. Or Puppy Linux off a cd.

Then you could copy and paste the documents to an external hard drive, dvd, flash drive etc.

RAW normally means ruined. You can try to recoup it with Partition Wizard Partition Recovery Wizard - Video Help. I'd also run a Disk Check or Partition Wizard Check File System on the other partitions, test the HD with the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan or Partition Wizard Partition surface test.

If the drive checks out you can try to start Win7 in the problem PC using Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start which includes everything that possibly can be done to start the OS leading up to if necessary rescuiing your files to run Factory Recovery or do the superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

After doing several tests that showed the harddrive still functioning with SMART functions etc, the same tests now show the harddrive as bricked! So I figure it's a lost cause

If you arent able to save the files.. Sorry.
But if you still want to use the harddrive try if you can do a full format and you may be able to use it but not save the files
If they are very important try sending it to a harddrive saving place but it can be extremely expensive

You can try to access the drive to rescue any files using Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console
or slave it to another PC to copy out your files. Always keep all files backed up, preferably in real time with a plan like Sync, Backup and Store your Files to the Cloud with Skydrive - Windows 7 Forums.

Once you replace the drive, run a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 with the Product Key on COA sticker.
