can't access network drive

Hello everyone,

I have a new 2nd hard drive that I just put in to my windows 7 machine for extra storage. It is formatted for ntfs and I can see it and access it on the windows 7 machine. My other computer on my home network is running windows xp sp3. I can see the drive on the xp machine but I can't access it. It keeps telling me I don't have proper permission. I am the administrator on both machines and can transfer other files back and forth across my network with no problems. So, what am I doing wrong?

File and folder permissions in win 7 is different. An admin (or the admin) on one is not the same as an admin on the other because the path to the user is different. IE machine A//admin is not machine B // admin.

For you to be able to share you need to include the qualified path to the user.

Lets say you want to share the XP folder with both the admin on XP and the admin on win 7. Both need to be added.

Still not having any luck with this one. Is there a tutorial on this somewhere? Seems no matter what I do, one machine or the other keeps telling me I don't have permission to do it.
