The only equipement changes you can make on a comp that doesn't invalidate the licence
HDD to SSD
RAM

There are a couple of other lines in the report that MS use in combination with product key, to ensure the above

All the keys that have shown up in this thread have been lifted from other comps, and as there ALL coming back as blocked they will have been used previously

Thanks. I thought I tried that but maybe didn't get all the way through. I will do that today.

Ok. Ran SLC.CMD and the APIC table has the HP OEM code.

Note, not all of the keys came back as blocked; most came back as couldn't be activated.
I"m trying them now that the OEM code has been changed. Is that in the bios?

Did. CMD.EXE reports successfully installed. After reboot, still reports not genuine. Here's the MGADiag report. I don't recognize the last several digits of the product key.

Still no go. I suspect it because the computer origianlly had Vista installed, and I went back to XP initially, then upgraded to Win 7. Anyone else have any Ideas?

That product key is for an HP OEM >>> factory Installed <<< version, of W7 Pro......
And as you have just posted that it was originally a Vista machine then the install media has been modded
The Slic table does not have the W7 marker either

thats the old version of Mgadiag
current can be found in the pinned in this sub thread home page

So the KB Update was already installed. I've bought 5 keys, including the original one that was working fine until I redid the hard drives. Hard to imagine MS thinks it's a good marketing plan to screw customers this way, but hey, it's been working for years.

HP is no help either. A perfectly functional and useful computer can't be used with the OS that had been installed.

Thanks to all who tried to help. TO a very dark place for the Harvard MBAs who are running MS and HP. May they fry for eternity.

Someone gave me an old laptop they bought at an auto junkyard for $1US. The computer didn't work so I pulled the hard drive and extracted product keys from it. I got keys for Windows 7 Home Premium and Office 7 Standard. Checking the specs showed the computer originally came with Windows Vista. Using Microsoft PID Checker indicates that the Windows 7 key is Retail.

I used this Windows 7 product key to activate Windows 7 on a desktop computer I have. There was no problem doing this because I was using a Retail key which allows it to be transferred on another computer.

I haven't read all the posts on this thread but is your Windows key Retail or OEM? Also, have you tried calling Microsoft for assistance with activating Windows?

BTW, earlier this year I installed Windows XP on an old computer. Phone activation was unsuccessful so I called Microsoft. I was surprised that Microsoft was very patient and helped me activate Windows XP. Note I had the original CDs and Product Keys for two copies of Windows XP Pro.
