I've recently set my 360 as an extender (ordeal +) and besides using Media Browser I'll occassionally want to stream music through. Every time I go into Tasks - Libraries and try to ad any (whether it be music, pictures, etc) I'm met instantly with "A necessary component of windows media center did not start correctly. Restart Windows Media Center."

There are heaps of solutions for Vista doing a Google search (which makes sense since nothing worked properly in Vista) but nothing that seems relevent to Seven PLEASE HELP!

PS one thing noteworthy is that my default Music and Photo libraries (that are set through Windows / Media Player) are accessable if I select the Music or Photo options in Media Player but doing so on the Xbox extender simply asks me to set up the libraries resulting in the original message.

Yeah no joy their! Only curious thing is I don't actually have a mediacenterdatastore.db file in the ehome folder that is noted in part 1...

Did you try all three suggestions, and have you installed the Media Center update via Windows Update? Also, what tweaks have you done to your system? Have you disabled any services, installed any codec packs, etc?

As far as "tweaks" go all I've really done is install media browser which is working perfectly! The MC update had been auto installed and won't install again. Pretty sure no codec packs have been installed
