Can't Assign new drive letter to Windows 7 Partion

Hello guys

I recently reinstalled Windows 7, but not on my C: drive, but on my P: Drive. I now wanna change the drive letter of my 7 install.
But i cant do it via Disk Management as i get the error "The parameter is incorrect"

Any other way to change it?

Don`t change the drive letter after you install W7 or any os for that matter.

Well i find it kinda irritating not having it listed as the first partion in computer, but having it listed as the 7th partion

Did you already have other things taking up the first six letters?

It should still be right next to your C drive, it`s just named P.

Wait a minute that`s 13 letters.

My old Windows 7 install was on the C: Drive, which i first deleted after installing the new windows 7 on my P: drive (i had some things to transfer etc.)
The drive letter C: is Not in use at the moment

Yes i had

OK now that`s really strange, you deleted it during the install and it is now not named C: ???

No I deleted i after install After i transfered my file from the old win7 install to the new one

Windows won't let you change the drive letter of the partition it is installed too. Most of your installed programs and even windows itself will be tied to the drive letter when they were installed. Change it and the path gets messed up and you break things. If you did manage to change it you would likely end up with a BSOD instead of a Loading Windows screen. You can hide the drive letters if you wish. Then it will sort alphabetically. I've turned them off on my system and like it that way.

Anyway, try Partition Wizard, although you will most likely BSOD yourself because path's are quite important.

Whatever volume you boot from should become C.

Do you think you could post a snip of disk management?

Leave it or reinstall with C: free.

To assign C: and cut out the 100mb SysReserved partition installed when you format using installer:

Boot DVD>Repair console>Recovery tools, open Command Line, type:
DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK # (for Windows 7 disk)
clean
create partition primary
select partition 1
assign letter=c:
active
format
exit
