can't burn to CD

Hello,
I have one computer in my office that refuses to burn an mp3 file to a CD (as a data disk, not as an audio CD), using Windows Explorer, which is the standard way we make audio data disks in my office. I'm attaching a copy of the error message, which isn't at all informative as to what the problem is. What is causing this, and how can I get around it?

Is there anything else on the disk ?
What type of disk ?
Have you ever tried to simply Drag and drop or copy and paste the files onto the dvd/rw drive letter ?
If you started with an empty disk right click it and click on Format this will erase anything on the disk.

Hi ThrashZone. No, we always use blank disks - they're just generic CDs from Office Depot. We either drag & drop OR copy & paste into the WinExp window. Everything is peachy until you click Next as shown on the attached screenclip. That's when the error message comes up. This is the only computer in the office that won't do the job.

Yes, we can burn using WMP. However, being in an office setting, we'd like to all follow the same procedure, and the rest of us burn using WinExp. So if we can figure out why that's not working for this one user and how to resolve the issue, that would be ideal.

Agreed I was seeking other possibilities to test the issue with the disk drive/ seems to be working properly at least with wmp,
Might have to think and search around for other possible things to try,
Have you review the More burn options and compared them to other machines that work properly ?

Also confirm you ran Disk cleanup and the first mr. fixit and Shut down the machine in question.

This tutorial looks a whole lot like the one I wrote for the office!

Yes, I ran the MS FixIt, which found & "fixed" a problem but didn't resolve the issue, and yes I ran disk cleanup.

Try to burn using safe mode and or clean boot.
Some thing is very different about this machine,
The only other thing I can think of is windows backup is backed up and effecting windows explorer ?
I'll assume software is identical on all machines.

We have a [mysterious] winner! All it took was booting into safe mode & TRYING to burn a disk (apparently you can't without a registry edit) and rebooting normally, and then trying the burn job. Went off without a hitch. Let's keep our fingers crossed that the problem is permanently solved! Thanks for the suggestions - don't know what worked, but something did!

You might just have a some what corrupted user account on this machine ?

It's funny you mention a corrupted user account, because back when we purchased the new computers in 2010, that machine /did/ have a problem. I had come in over a holiday weekend to get everything set up (and yes, I tried to get all machines set up exactly the same, with minor differences for our different job duties), and ended up on the phone with tech support just to get the darn thing to boot up for the first time, and it ended up that the default user was corrupt!

Since then, the user hasn't had any major problems - not until we started burning these disks about six months ago, and she has yet to burn one. But we'll see what happens next time! Thanks again! (and you're very welcome)

Sounds like it's time to format and reload windows 7 from oem disk soon ?
I just got a cheap one from TigerDirect for a future machine 101.98 tt&l-d/ one user but they had others to choose from for pretty cheap.
