Can't change background

For some reason I can no longer change the background of my desktop.

I had it set to slide show but it it is stuck on just one picture.

I have tried changing themes and it seems to change everything but the background i.e. the sounds and the borders colours change but not the background.

Any help appreciated.

What happens if you right click on a wallpaper and select as desktop??

I can't see that option.

From themes I select slide show and then the backgrounds I want.

If I go directly to backgrounds and right click I just get an option to select.

Hi njg and Welcome to SevenForums

Try just right clicking desktop, go to Personalization and double click the background you want and see if it changes. Then click on slide show and see how often you have it set to change. Let us know if you have more questions.

I've tried that any it doesn't work.

I've also now found where the images are stored and done as Tews asked, i.e. right clicking and setting as wallpaper and that doesn't work either.

Hello NJG, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might check with the tutorial below to see if the changing your desktop background option may have been disabled some how. Test by making sure these are enabled. It is the same in Windows 7.

I have the home premium edition and don't appear to have gpedit.msc

I tried the manual root but can't find

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies

in the registry.

It was working so unless there is a simple way to disable it I wouldn't have done it. Registry tinkering is way out of my league.

You can use the enable download in step 3 (under STEP TWO) in METHOD TWO to do this instead.
