Hello,

I recently installed Win7 RC Build 7100. My one and only account on this PC is standard user. I am having issues which are as follows, Office 2007 has been loaded and everytime I open any office app, Word, Excel, Outlook etc, the installer window comes up. In addition, Avast has detected a Trojan, and I cannot delete the Trojan because I do not have Admin permmision for Avast to access the HDD to delete it.
I have installed two printers and a scanner, however they do not show up in my devices window, but I can still print.

I can only assum that these issues have something to do with the fact that I am logged on as a standard user and not an Admin user. I have tried to change my user account to full admin, however the option is there but grayed out.

Is this because this version is the RC version? I'm about to get rid of windows7 and reinstall vista (which would suck, I really like the new features of 7)

does anyone have any ideas?

Why don't you try to create a new user account, with full administrator rights. If you can do that, you can then copy over your user files from the old user account and hopefully, your problems will be resolved.

If that doesn't work, then I agree that a repair or a new clean install might be necessary.

Yes, I did try to create a new user, but the Administrator was still grayed out. I can only create a standard user account!!

Your first created account, by default, is an Administrator. If this did not happen, then it is probably a bad install or bad ISO.

Try this first:
Open up command prompt (run as admin) and type:
Code:
sfc /scannow

Are there any corrupted files?

Try to boot in safe mode by pressing F8 at startup and log in using the "Administrator" account. Then go and create yourself a new Admin user (or change the type of your existing account to an Administrator). Reboot to normal mode again and login using your new Admin user.

All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality.
Sounds likethe ISO or CD you were given is a locked down version of the OS. Where did u get this W7 from?

When you setup seven were you given a chance to setup an admin account. If not then you have a bad copy. Can only recommend you get a new RTM from MS's download site. Not sure through, maybe it was the RC, but one of those (RTM or RC) had an end date of 21 August. Good luck. :)

From TechNet, you are able to acquire full working versions. The referenced 90 day version is Enterprise and is available freely to the world.

Its all I could find, I do admit however I did not dig deep in looking. Do you have a link to the versions you are talking about?

I think there is some confusion here about Technet. There are two parts to Technet. There is the part that is available to everyone w/o a subscription which offers some limited or beta apps for download "to the world," and there is the part that is only available to subscribers. It is this latter subscription part that makes full versions of most MS software available for download.

Thank you. I stand corrected.

Actually, I am corrected in the prone position. Moving furniture is breaking an old man's back.

I am a subscriber to technet, but I have not paid for any Technet subscriptions. If you happen to have a msn logon, here is the link to the windows7 download page on technet, but you have to have an account other than that of a standard user to download.

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/securedownloads/default.asp

This has proven to be too much hassle for me and a bit disappointing too I might add. I will give it one more shot by attempting to repair the install verifying the admin option at the beginning. Besides, would a Standard user be able to perform an OS install anyway? I’ve not seen that before. Usually only an admin can do an OS install and this is by default. Right?

If that does not work I'm going to reformat my hard drive and install Vista. I will deal with W7 later after it has been out for awhile.
