Solved Can't connect via HTML

This is an older laptop. In switched out the hard drive because it was showing signs of going out soon. The laptop is my brothers girlfriend's and she said it did not come with any discs. I downloaded all the drivers for the laptop off toshibas website.

I am using the installation disc that I bought from online to put into a custom computer I built earlier this year.

Where did you buy/download the installation disc from?
Is the installation disc the same version of Windows that was originally installed on the laptop?
Is the laptop Windows activated using the COA key on the laptop?

OEM's usually have a utility to create System Restore disc's.
Can we assume these disc's were not created?
You can probably get a set of Recovery Disc's from Toshiba, but there may be a $ charge...

I bought the installation disc from newegg.com for a computer I was building. The laptop did have Windows 7 Home Premium before I switched out the hard drives. I am using the product key off the back of the laptop.
I will say it is safe to say there was no OEM disc created for the laptop.
I will give them a call and see what I can find out.

You should be ok with using your disc on the laptop using the laptop OEM key.
I'm not sure why you are having issues with the drivers.
64 Bit drivers are different than 32 Bit drivers...
Make sure you get the correct BIT drivers.
Also, not having the SM Bus driver may cause other problems...

Do you still have the old HD, and can you boot up with it?
If you can boot it, you could check for exactly what drivers are in the original OS...

YOU SIR ARE A GENIUS!! I didn't think about that. The hard drive will boot up I believe. I switched it out because it will reset itself to factory settings and delete everything. I tried recover some files but the scans kept freezing up. Will it hurt the laptop if I swapped the old hard drive in to look at the drivers or should I use as an external hard drive?
What are BIT drivers? I tried finding the correct bus drive by using Microsoft troubleshoot and had no luck.

I would try booting the laptop with the old hard drive.
It won't hurt the laptop, but if the HD is starting to fail, the more it is used the sooner the HD will fail.
You might even still be able to create the Recovery Disc's with the old HD booted - can't hurt to try.

By BIT I just meant that for Win7 64 Bit, you need 64 BIT drivers...for Win7 32 Bit, you need 32 BIT drivers.

I found another Toshiba site (Europe) that to me seems better for searching for drivers.
This link is for Win 8 x64, but you can change the OS and search.
Download drivers:

It seems like there is a lot more available for Win 8 than for Win 7.
Win 8 drivers MAY work...can't hurt to try if you can't find a Win 7 driver.

There is also this Toshiba Forum for Drivers and Utilities.

You could ask there where to get the drivers - looks like a lot of folks ask for drivers here...

You could also try DriverMax and see if you can copy the drivers from the old hard drive.

Thought about this a bit more and if you can connect the old laptop HD to a PC see if you can copy any personal data off the HD so you don't lose it.

I'm not sure if that really means the HD is failing, or there is some other issue with the OS on the old HD...
So, if you can connect the old HD as an external, do that first and see if you can backup any personal data before losing it...
To me the most important thing would be to not lose any personal data (if possible).

Right now I think you have 2 issues:
1) There are problems booting with the old HD which may be a failing HD or a problem with Windows...
2) With a clean install of Windows on a new HD, you can't find some of the required drivers.
IMHO finding drivers should not be this difficult...:banghead:

Chaps, we have given you the link to Toshiba's support and downloads page. I simply want to know have you downloaded both chipset and video drivers for that specific laptop model from that page, then installed first the chipset drivers and after reboot the video drivers?

I agree the chipset driver and video driver are needed.

I've looked a lot at the Toshiba's drivers available, and haven't been able to find a chipset driver for this laptop for Win 7 x64...
Have you found a download link for this driver?

I've found some Win 8 drivers that MIGHT work, but who knows...
There are no Vista (or older) drivers listed that I see.

Ah I did not check which drivers the site offers. The missing SM Bus driver however inclines that the chipset driver is not installed, so it would be IMO crucial to find it in order to get other things to work.

What I still find odd is that it is for an Intel chipset, and from what I know this laptop has an AMD CPU (APU)...
I did see an Intel chipset driver for Win 8, but wasn't sure about all that (Win-7/Win-8 and AMD/Intel)...
Maybe Toshiba uses AMD CPU's with an Intel MB chipset ?

First of all I wanted to thank the both of you for helping me with this issue. I greatly appreciate it. I'm sorry it took me so long to reply. I just got home from a road trip for a soccer tournament.

David: I think I copied all the drivers off of the old HD. I haven't tried copying them to the HD yet. I looked at Device Manager on the old HD and it didn't show any drivers for a Monitor.
As far as getting all the personal data off the old HD...it's too late. All personal data has already been deleted and lost. I already ran some recovery programs and the only data recovered was images from the internet. I also tried connecting the HD as an external HD and didn't have any luck that way as well. Before I replaced the old HD I tried reinstalling Windows 7 on it and it still had a hard time booting up. Also what is IMHO?

Kari: When I was reinstalling the drivers from the Toshiba website I could not find a driver download for the chipset. I can tell you the first driver I downloaded was the internet driver I believe.

So let me make sure I am understanding everything you are saying. The laptop has an AMD CPU but is installed on an Intel MB? Also should I go ahead and try to copy everything on the new HD from the old HD or see if I can find drivers from the link you have provided?

Where did you find the page for the Intel chipset download. I went to the link you provided and it just took me to the support page. I went to the driver and software page, entered the model, and could not find the Intel chipset download.

Entering the laptop model Satellite C875D-S7225 at Drivers & Software Support | Toshiba and clicking Go gives a list of drivers for that laptop. The list of correct drivers is then presented in the middle of the page as shown in this screenshot:



I clicked the Filter by: Chipset on the left pane. I do not know Toshiba's support page, never having had a Toshiba, but as far as I know and understand these should then be the chipset drivers for selected model?

However, when I now went back to said Toshiba page, the Filter by: list no longer has chipset to select! I am absolutely sure the chipset was mentioned in that list when I checked it last time and gave that driver.


EDIT: Geeks, this is my mistake. I had to check this a bit more, I have found my mistake. The chipset drivers are shown on that Filter by: list but only as long as no laptop model is given, when the list is showing all available Toshiba drivers for all possible Toshiba laptops.

As soon as the model number is given and list updated, the chipset is longer presented on that list. I made a mistake, it seems I had typed the correct laptop model in search field but not clicked Go to update the search so the list was not for OP's laptop model but showing all Toshiba drivers.

The Intel drivers I told earlier are wrong. My mistake, sorry.

I don't see a Chipset filter in the left pane.
I normally use FF but my screen print is from IE10 to eliminate a FF addon causing the issue for me...


I have been able to consistently find a chipset driver for Win 8, but it has a different date than the driver you showed...
