Solved Can't delete partition?

Well here is the story;

I had 2 windows operating systems running, one on the D drive and another on the C drive. I decided to remove the windows running on the D drive, deleting anything and then made a new empty partition.

but....
for some reason I cannot seem to delete that new empty partition I made. What I'm trying to do is extend the empty partition to my main windows installation so I can have more disk space.

You are not able to delete the D: partition since it has the page file on it. You will need to first move the page file to be on your C drive instead.

Afterwards you should be able to delete the D: partition. However, you will not be able to extend the unallocated space from D: into C: in Disk Management since it's to the left of C: instead of directly right (adjacent) to C:. You'll need to use a free program like MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition to do so instead.

You may try using Partition Wizard Bootable CD.
Free download Magic Partition Manager Software, partition magic alternative, free partition magic, partition magic Windows 7 and server partition software - Partition Wizard Online

Follow the process: How to Delete Partition with partition manager? Partition Wizard Help

You may need to remove the boot entry from the system reserved partition too, if the two installations are in a dual boot sequence, but that comes later.

If anything problems with the procedure, let us know.

I don't think the free version of MiniTool supports merging partition Brink, I'm pretty sure of that, maybe suggest a differant partition program?

it say's nothing about it merging partitions in home edition on this page, but if you click "compare Editions" it has a red X next to Merging partitions for Home edition

Ok guys! I've managed to move the page file, now I'll have to extend it using third party partition managers. Gonna try EaseUS now!

Strictly speaking its not a merge operation...simply resizing C: to the left into the previous partition, which should be deleted and show as unallocated. Partition Wizard is capable of that.

Thanks a lot guys! It worked! Took about 12 hours to move 400GB using AOMEI Partition Assistant!


Oh! Btw is that System Reserved G drive useless now? Is it from my old windows or my new windows? Can I remove it?

Great news Robb.

I wouldn't recommend to delete the "System Reserved" partition since it may have been used with your latest Windows installation. If you like, you could safely remove the drive letter for it to no longer see it in your Computer window.

I don't really mind it being there, I'll leave it anyway just incase it could corrupt something.
