The main thing that you want to do is when using devices as media centers.
you want to give them static IP's.

also you wan to stay on the main page of your ps3... that way the network is open.

umm you may want to uninstall the ps3 media server ... make sure the directory under the program files is completely deleted.. then reinstall again.

The main screen of the PS3, i forgot what they call that screen.

You know that shows Video, Game, Network, Settings... Pretty Colors in the background.

That is the best screen to be at for the PS3 Media Server to find the network card on your PS3.

do you have any kind of firewall turned on...

Here is a topic, that might help you out. I didn't read the whole thing...

I would suggest using TVersity for sharing media. It's free and i've done this couple of times now and it worked perfectly. You can even install it on winXP too so if you have multiple computer they can all share their content over the network. With tversity it is not windows that looks for your ps3 but the ps3 that looks for the tversity shares. Only drawback it the PS3 of course but that's another story :)

Post any result if you try that

there is no need to install anything in ur computer to let ps3 detect ur computers media sharing. As long as ur PS3 and computer are in the same network(connecting to the same router), PS3 will automatically detect all files sharing computers. Just turn on the media sharing in PS3 and authorize in win 7 when the request is sent by PS3, after that, ur PS3 is able to see what are the media files shared in ur computer.

when PS3 found the media server, that means ur computer is found. The next thing is, you've gotta set the files u want to share in ur computer. eg. if u have some files in d:/videos that u wan to share, u have to go to that folder and right click, go to properties and sharing to enable sharing of that particular folder.

The folders you share needs to be in the right categories. The way casng shares his files is the same way as using Windows Media Player. You have to had those files to your library. After that it should work. The only Drawback is that it's a pain in the a** to update when you had new files. you have to wait for windows to update or delete / recreate the library. Believe me Tversity is the way to go and on the plus side you will be able to transcode any kind on video format not just the ones your ps3 supports. And no installing codecs on your windows machine won't do the trick with media sharing. So why not help yourself and go there instead of waisting an other hour configuring windows :)

Do you have your router opened up to port 5001

I think that is the port that PS3 Media Server uses.

Just open up on the router TCP and UDP and also make sure if you are using a Firewall.

to open those ports as well.

Another thing that I can help you with is using TeamViewer and I can work on your computer from here becuase I am using PS3 media server and it works fine for me. It is really up to you.
