Solved Can't Detect Networks

I know, you hear it all the time. But I'm pretty confident I've located all the right drivers from Intel ( I previously had Windows XP before this) but I have no way of detecting wireless networks. The only possible connection I have is a local area connection. I'm on a Dell Latitude 610. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

does your wifi device show up ok in device manager?

(start typing device into your start-menu searchbox and select device manager from the search results)

My wifi device would be my driver correct? And no, it does not.

a driver is something that lets windows know how to make the device work.

in that case, it looks like you haven't installed the driver correctly.

you should see something like this under 'network adapters'.

sometimes running windows update can help find drivers.

under network adapters i have the broadcom one but the one that I need is the second one listed. In its spot is a blank file called: network controller.

have you tried windows update? that's the easiest place to start.

the dell website only seems to have xp and win2000 drivers for your machine...

Windows update won't work unless I'm connected to the internet though?

you have no network cable to connect to your router?

(just to find drivers?)

what's your machine service tag? would make it easier to know exactly what we are looking for? should be on a sticker somewhere on the underside of your laptop.

ok, looks like bad news i'm afraid

your machine has an intel 2200BG wifi controller, and according to intel, there aren't any drivers for 7

however there is a vista one - it might work - download the installer, right-click >> properties >> chose one of the 'vista' options in the compatibility tab.

err...not too long.

you're doing it in vista compatibility mode?

try sp1 or sp2.

it may not work at all, but it's worth a go...
