I have purchased a new HP Pavilion with a wireless mouse and keyboard. There are 4 keyboard drivers including "Microsoft eHome MCIR 109 Keyboard. This driver is causing problems with an application that uses DirectX to handle both the keyboard and mouse.

The problem is that a few keys malfunction but if I uninstal that driver prior to using the application then everything works perfectly in the application as well as everything else in Windows including keyboard, TV, Remote controls etc.

The problem is that everytime the computer is re-booted or even switched on the problem driver is reinstalled.

Can anyone help?

Hi bbear924, Welcome to the forums, See if this little tutorial helps you http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/82137-drivers-turn-off-automatic-driver-installation.html :)

Thanks for the reply pebbly.

I followed those instructions but it did not work. Could it be that they only stop automatic upgrades or downloads but do not affect the existing problem driver. The option to Disable that driver is greyed out on my computer, only uninstal can be performed but of course it is reinstalled when the computer is switched on.

The problem driver has two driver files located within Windows at:

C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\kbdclass.sys
C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\kbdhid.sys

Could anything be done there? with my limited knowledge I am reluctant to alter system files but I can remember reading something about copying one of these files to the desktop, making some change, then copying it back, but I cannot remember exactly what it was or where I read it.

Perhaps you can explain what the malfunction is, or appears to be. The drivers a basic keyboard\human interface drivers and I can't see those causing a problem.
if you did find a way of disabling those drivers, you wouldn't be able to use a keyboard. Win all flavours wont boot if it doesn't detect one.

There are 4 keyboard drivers installed. When I enter keyboard devices via the control panel and uninstal the problem driver (remember disable is greyed out) then there are 3 drivers remaining, and at that point everything works perfectly in third party software and Windows, so I think it is fair to say that the driver "Microsoft eHome MCIR 109 Keyboard" is causing the problem. The malfunction is that when using application programs that use Direct X, then for example the "=" key does nothing, the "\" key does nothing, and 3 others are the same. The " ] " key prints out the wrong way round and the "#" key prints out " ] " what I call a right hand square bracket.
