can't do clean install of win 7 on new HD

I would not use ZoneAlarm crapware as we see nothing but problems with it here for three years since before Win7 release.

Use Microsoft Security Essentials with Win7 Firewall kept updated by setting Updates to Automatic, treating Recommended same as Important.

Use Malwarebytes for on-demand scanning, or add it's Real Time Protection if you're prone to infection.

Keep UAC set to highest setting in Control Panel>User Accounts.

Keep your browser-related security patches updated regularly with Free Online Computer Scan - Online Software Inspector (OSI) - Secunia.

You will have much better performance by taking the time to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 and sticking only with the methods and tools in the blue link.

it's working fine!

hi

i did a clean install and it's working fine (it loaded the right drivers and the wireless adapter works)

i have not yet done the steps outlined in the link but i'm going to stick to them.

one small problem and i hope i don't get flamed but when i clicked on the blue link underlined and named "tools" it took me to IBM.COM! i don't no whether the problem is at my end (i tried on 2 different machines and i still went to IBM) this got me thinking that maybe the links could be compromised and i could end up downloading malware- i know this is unlikely i but just want to be safe.

on the other link i noticed the point about google and spyware- is it ok to visit and view photos on picasa by google or will they secretly put spyware on my computer? same for google maps. also is it safe to have the google search bar you mentioned instead of using googles web page?

i don't think i will have much trouble with the stuff covered in the link but if i do i will post a reply for help. i will post a reply when i have completed step 17.

thanks for your time and patience,

bye for now,

ken.

What link went to IBM? I see no link in the tutorial named "Tools."

I would not install any Google programs in my Control Panel as they are pernicious spyware. As it states, for Google searches use only the stable search box built into your browser which protects your from spying. If you go to a Google site, stay signed out or sign out as soon as you finish your business.

May I ask how you did a Clean Install without doing any of the step outlined in the tutorial yet? The steps begin with preparations before, during and after the reinstall.

expalantion

hi

the link was not in the lage blue hyperlink that leads to the steps involved in creating a perfect clean reinstall but was contaned in the following lines from your post:

You will have much better performance by taking the time to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 and sticking only with the methods and tools in the blue link. it was the word "tools" in between "methods and" and then followed by the blue link AND the words "in the blue link",it was a blue underlined hypertext link that took me to IBM.COM. on 2 computers the link was there but on another occasion it wasn't there- today it wasn't there just the plain word "tools". it got me thinking that my computer(s) have been compromised but if it was a teenage hacker having a joke i would have thought he would made the link go to a gay porn site or something more sinister!

i didn't want to bore you with excess details but the iso down load i did (and installed) was just a test to see if the computer would work correctly this is why i didn't carry out all the steps outlined in the blue link. the only computers i can use to download the iso file of windows 7 clean reinstall are (i suspect) infected so i have done a factory install on the "working machine" using a great deal of security to make sure it is virus free before i download and make an iso file disk to use on the "broken machine" when i have done this i'm going to reinstall it on the "broken machine" and follow all the steps outlined in the link. i am going to such extremes because i'm frightened that if i make a windows 7 iso disk on the infected computer the virus could somehow be inplanted in the iso disk and contaminate the "broken machine" when i've sorted out the "broken machine" following all the steps outlined in the blue link i'm going to install the windows iso disk on the machine that i have reinstalled the factory recovery disk on -again following all the steps in the link.

i'm still a bit confused about picasa and google maps is it safe to vist and view them?

thanks a lot,

ken.

What did I say above about Google sites?

If you're concerned about infection, rightclick the ISO to scan it with your AV and Malwarebytes. That should be enough.

ok thanks, i'll do that and post when i finished the installation'
