I want to download again my previously purchased Windows 7 Home Premium . from the Microsoft.
I get to my downloads page with my download and product key.
I downloaded what I thought would be the .exe but I got was:
"Windows7_HomePremium_2011_sp1x64exe_v2setup2.box"
obviously, when I try to run it I get "What program...."

It's going on a Vista machine that won't install from the .iso, which I downloaded with no problem.

Hi Shawn,

Embarrassment is getting to be my strong suite.
I already had both .iso.

Since I really wanted a clean 7 install I tried a Vista .iso so I could use a 7 .exe from within Vista.

Got thru that Vista install and had "Cannot be installed on this computer..."

Somewhere in a "Toms Hardware" forum, someone made a silly comment to try a new optical drive.

It worked and I now have a fully functioning W-7 HP on what was a clunky Vista machine.

Thanks as usual for your help.

Just a quickie, Shawn
Where would I get an .exe download?
All at Digital River are .iso's.

Thats correct, there are no .exe's. You need to download the iso, and in the process of writing it to the USB drive, the relevant .exe files are created for you.
