Cant edit a partition

I was installing ubuntu on this partition in and the power happened to go out with it was being formatted so I went back into gparted and wiped it but now I cant edit it in windows7. I cant expand other partitions either. The relevant options in the context menu are greyed out. How should I go about repairing this? When I try to create a new volume even with a size lower than whats available I get the error message seen in the fourth screenshot.

Run a chkdsk /r on the drive by opening a command prompt from start>type cmd in search menu and hit return and type in chkdsk /r in the box and follow the prompts and reboot when it says to. You may have some errors on the drive or bad sectors..

On an mbr disk, you can have a maximum of 3 primary partitions and 1 extended partition (within which you can have lots of logical volumes) which you already have, hence the error.

I suggest you use a 3rd party tool like partition wizard to pull the existing logical to the left to use the unallocated space.

The storage volume disappeared! I tried to use recuva to scan it but it wont even recognize the volume. I really need help with this I had SO MUCH important stuff on that volume. After I used the live cd Bill2 linked everything worked fine except for playing music in wmp, I had to delete the files from the library and then re add them. But I do remember yesterday installing an update and then getting a message saying windows may be counterfit. Could either of those things affect this? I just did a system restore but its still just a "free space" volume. If windows thinks its counterfit would it disable logical drives? Could it have been the most recent update? What would cause it to go from a recognzed logical volume to free space??? Im really sweating bullets on this one guys.

You can use Diskpart to see what partition type the partition has.
Go to an elevate command prompt and enter following commands:
DiskPart
List Partition
Select Partition n where ne denotes the number of the partition of interest
Detail Partition which will show you the partition type
Exit to exit diskpart
exit to exit the cmd shell

There is no disk selected to list partitions.
Select a disk and try again.

sorry about the oversight.
Either an earlier list disk or list volume will result in list partition working.

00 = Unused empty partition
01 = Fat 12 partition
04 = Fat 16 partition
05 = Extended partition
07 = Windows NT NTFS (IFS) partition
0B = Fat 32 partition
17 = Hidden partition,
27 = OEM Recovery partition
42 = LDM (Local Disk Manager) partition
80 = NTFT partition
C0 = NTFT partition that is part of an NTFT mirror or striped array

List Partition
