Can't email directly from MSWord2000?

Not sure if this is the right place for this question...
Running W7 and MS Word 2000. After writing a document in Word2000, I can't get the direct email function to function. That is, I would like to email the finished document directly from Word2000. I can place the needed function icons into the tool bar, but they don't work. BTW, I can email the document once it is save in Documents.

Does this apply?

One cause is your mail client does not support MAPI. May not apply if you are using Outlook.
