In WIN 7 Ultimate 64bit, I installed outlook2007, then from another machine (XP Pro w/ same ver outlook) exported my pst and imported it to my WIN 7 machine.

Everything seemed fine, I see all my old emails, all my contacts. However, when I create an email and click on the 'To:' button to address the mail, all I get is an empty 'Select Names' window.

I've been reading for hours and can't seem to figure out what I've done wrong in setting up Outlook. I realize I've gone brain-dead now and seriously need help with this.

My other machine is still online and working fine so this is not an emergency, except to preserve my sanity.

HELP.

Thanks,

J. R.

You'll probably find that when you installed Outlook a "Contacts" file was created and this obviously contains no data. Then, after importing the .PST file from your XP PC, Outlook contains a second "Contacts" file. There is an option to select the order in which "address books" are accessed and you need to set the appropriate Contacts with your data in as the first item.

I've recently been through this nightmare scenario with someone installing Outlook in a new PC and then trying to get it working properly with a .PST file from the old PC. We got it working more by good luck than anything else, but try clicking the little "address book" icon in the toolbar and see if that lets you alter the priority of the address book to use.

Thanks MM

Perfect MM! I found that item and you were correct, there were three contact lists. One was the new one, empty, which was selected. The other two had their names appeneded with -1 and -2 from all my bumbling around.

Shouldn't be this complicated.

Thanks again,

J. R.
