Hi,

Naively, I put some of our folders with documents and videos on the start menu. After doing so, we could not retrieve the folders. So I deleted them from the start menu, but now I still can't find them. Where did they go?

Thanks for helping!

hi again

well, basically, I was just trying to not have so much on my desktop. So I dragged some folders over to the start menu.

When we couldn't click on them and get to the documents and videos, I deleted them from the start menu. Then I couldn't find them on the computer. They are not in the trash bin. And, they are not found when searched for.

Another problem we had...I was copying videos and pictures onto cds and dvds. After they were copied, I deleted some of the videos to the trash bin. But, then my daughters said that they wanted to use some of them still. when I restored them, some restored, but others did not....do you know why the difference?

Apparently those were no shortcuts but the files themselves. If that is the case, once you deleted them they are gone - unless they ended up in the recycle bin.

I am still puzzled why you would drag them into the start menu. That is an odd place to put files.

You could try Recuva ( Download Recuva 1.39.509 - FileHippo.com ). Maybe you can retrieve them. But you have to know where they were last - probably on yourr desktop.

Rich, he said that he has no backup - I interpret that as no restore points. Because if he had restore points, it would be easy to find the files with Shadow Explorer.

Theres no right or wrong, he said no back up. I think he may have back up and restore. No need for Shadow Explorer its built in with Seven. This is not Vista.
But its an opinion and we give our help based upon opinion. Your suggestion is great, but I dont think we are sure of the facts.

I assume you refer to "Previous Version". I noticed a few times that I was unable to find a previous version although with Shadow Explorer I could find it. That's why I prefer the safe route. But maybe that is only my bad luck.
