Can't format 2 tb external hdd

Keep getting error message "cyclic redundancy
check". when running Windows backup. Now can't get the hard drive formatted

Have you run check disk on the drive?

Open disk manager (C:\Windows\System32\diskmgmt.msc), delete all partitions - create new partition - Format as NTFS

You might, on another computer if necessary, download and make a portable USB of that 2TB HDD's manufacturer's disk utilities, run them, followed by chkdsk /f.
