Can't get past welcome screen

Rice on Stage

New member
Hi! and thank you in advance!

I've been going on through this forum the past two days trying to figure out why my computer stays stuck on the welcome screen once I type in my password. I've done everything that has been in my power to do, from Disabling and uninstalling my nVidia graphics card driver to running a diagnostic with Avast! but nothing seems to work.

I don't have a Windows 7 CD to repair the computer because I got a college student discount and downloaded it online. I also can SOMETIMES get into Safe Mode (when it happens is random, sometimes I get a black screen with my cursor present), but Safe mode with Networking has the same problem of not getting past that welcome screen.

I've also tried System Restoring to an Automatic Restore Point it made two weeks ago and it was no help.

My computer isn't frozen, as the mouse and the spinning circle are active. I'm not entirely sure what to do. The last time I used my computer was the morning of two days ago to watch stuff on Hulu with Firefox and play music with iTunes. I've had Windows 7 installed for maybe 3ish months now and have never encountered this problem.

Please help!

Note: I've also had that problem with iTunes and the Logitech G15 Keyboard where iTunes keeps forcing itself to the top, if that matters

You left a very important clue...

"Safe Mode WITH NETWORKING always repeats the behavior of a normal boot"...this actually gives us a clue that something strange is going on with your ethernet/wireless card...try downloading updated driver(s) for it/them and then update it on your faulty machine to see if that makes a difference

I tried Startup repair and it said that everything was fixed, but still can't login

@ Zidane24
So since I can't connect to the internet, should I download it on another computer and save it to a Harddrive and then connect my external to the laptop to update the drivers?

Also, sometimes even when just going into safe mode I have that problem of the constantly looping welcome screen. Does that mean that it's not just a networking problem?

Thank you both for the quick response!!

It probably is more than a networking problem but at least we have a test case where the problem is occurring 100% of the time

So I was planning on waiting for my roommate to get home to download the drivers but I decided to go into safe mode and disable all the drivers that were under network drivers. I was able to login but once the wall paper loaded and the start button and time loaded, it froze (well, the time froze but the spinning circle is still spinning and the touchpad still moves the cursor. I'm not exactly sure where to go from here because this means that it isn't simply a network problem, if I'm correct?

Thank you again Zidane for the rapid response!

Safe Mode with Networking works

So I did what Zidane24 recommended I do and uninstall/reinstall my network drivers. I can now log onto Safe Mode with Networking, but when I try to log in regularly, I either get the Black Screen with Moving Cursor, a Blank Screen, or the Welcome Screen that forever loads.

Does anyone have any ideas of where I go from here?
