Hi everyone. This is my first post at the SevenForums.

I have had a windows 7 machine for about a year and I recently wanted to get a wireless adapter working on the machine. My machine is a Dell Studio XPS 8000 running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

The adapter I am using is a SMCWUSB-G Wireless USB 2.0 adapter.
I don't have any problems seeing the adapter in Device Manager and I have made sure the WLAN Autoconfig is started (see pics).

But when I go to the Network and Sharing center and click on "Manage wireless networks" it is not finding any networks to connect to. (see pic) It should be seeing about 10 (I checked on my netbook that has a working wifi connection.)

If I click on the wireless adapter in Network Connections and then click on "Diagnose this connection" it ends up telling me that "There might be a problem with the driver for the Wireless Network Connection adapter". But I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers from the manufacturers website and I get the same results.

I have read the forums here and tried a few things. I had AVG antivirus installed and I removed it. That didn't help. I have the ZoneAlarm firewall installed and disabled it. That also didn't help. I have not yet tried uninstalling ZoneAlarm to see if that helps. I booted the machine with a live linux usb OS and using that the adapter worked fine. I also tried a different adapter on the machine and got the same results. That tells me there isn't a problem with the adapter.

Can anybody suggest anything that might help me resolve this?

The problem is zone alarm when usb wireless adaptors are removed and moved to a diffrent port then zone alarm doesnt allow conections , you need to remove zonealarm compleatly then reinstall it will work.

I have had this many times when changing adaptors or just unplugin
my system to do some upgrades and its deffinetly zone alarm thats stopping you finding conections.

Hi, I might be wrong but I checked all 4 models and no 64-bit editions for W7 appeared.

http://www.sevenforums.com/drivers/30220-problem-smc-ez-connect-smcwusb-g.html

same issue :(

I'm sure its not compatible

Consider another Adapter I recommend Belkin :)

This is the best wireless adapter I have ever bought, no problems. Belkin F5D8053 N Wireless USB Adapter: Amazon.ca: Electronics

Thanks for the response but according to this it is comapatible:
Windows 7 Compatibility for SMC Networks EZ Connect G Wireless Network Adapter: SMC Networks. Drivers, Updates, Downloads
