can't install ultimate 64 bit on RAID 0

i'm trying to install windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on a 300GB RAID 0 disk (2 x 160GB SATAII) but i'm running into an issue.

i get to the screen that lists the available hard drives for windows 7 to be installed on and it lists my 300GB RAID disk, and i'm able to format it, but it doesn't create the system partition that normally gets created during this process.

when i try to click next to proceed, the following message appears below the list of available drives and i can't go any further:

Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the Setup log files for more information.

any ideas on what would cause this issue and how i can fix it?

Hello Matt,

See if deleting the disk so that's listed as "unallocated space", then install Windows 7 on it will have the "System Reserved" partition install on it. Have your RAID drivers handy on a USB key drive incase you need them though.

do you mean delete the existing array and try the installation again?

if so, then i tried that already but no disks show up as being available for installing windows 7 on.

plus, the RAID disk was already showing up as unallocated space before i formatted it the first time around.

any other suggestions?

Sorry, but no. I meant to have the RAID disk show up during the installation, but do not format it and let it stay as unallocated space for Windows 7 to install on instead.

i have tried that, too... whether i format the disk or leave it and try to proceed i get that message when i try to click Next.

i can install the same OS on an IDE drive in the same computer with no issues, so maybe there is an issue with this RAID setup.

any other suggestions?

The only other thing I can think to try is to completely undo and create the RAID array from your RAID controller again. Next, have your RAID drivers available on a USB key drive to use to "Load Drivers" from the USB key drive during the installation of Windows 7 so that it can see the RAID array.
