I tried to put a clean install onto a new Western Digital 500Gb Sata Hard Drive. During the Infomation gathering Win 7 gave this message: Windows cannot be installed to this disk. Windows could not determine if this disk and it parent devices have the necessary driver support. What does this mean ?

My old Hard drive is IDE 250GB. My motheboard is a Asrock K10N78D, which gives me no problems. I dont want a Raid set up. All I want is to have Win7 on my new 500GB Sata hard Drive.

your board supports sata hard disk but If you have your ide drive plugged in, it probably will choke.

Asrock K10N78D connectivity shows:
6 x SATAII 3.0 Gb/s connectors, support RAID (RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 0+1, RAID 5 and JBOD), NCQ, AHCI and Hot Plug functions
- 1 x ATA133 IDE connector (supports 2 x IDE devices)

I suggest that you disconnect any other hard disks on your computer and only have the cd/dvd drive connected along with your new sata hard disk.
boot the cd/dvd and they try to install.
Let us know whether this is ok?

My DVD/CD is the only Ide device. The Hard drive is new I put it in place the Windows 7 installation disk and got the above message, do I need to put Sata drivers on? When I tried to install again the Screen just stuck on the Starting Windows Logo, there was alot of HD activity but to no avail.

Did you follow the instructions from the link I gave you? You need to set BIOS to AHCI.

Well tried today, but had no luck! I made the necessary changes in BIOS and switched to AHCI but notice during boot up this message:Auto detecting SataII.1 Ide hard disk Sata1 AHCI Port 0 device error. I continued the boot up got to the loading windows setting NOTHING! I left it for an hour nothing! So I swiched back the bios setting to IDE, Windows loads to the gathering info bit ask for drivers but does not recognise any.

Advice please?
