Hey everyone, I'm new to the forums around here, I joined hoping I could get some help with this problem I am having.

First here are my specs:
Acer Extensa 5620 (Laptop)
Intel Core2Duo T5250 1.5GHZ
2GB DDR2 RAM 533 MHZ ( I think)
120 GB HDD
I'm not too sure on the motherboard

So I formatted my WinXP drive, and tried to install Win7 Ultimate x86.
Everything went fine until after the first reboot, "completing installation" it would just crash and everything froze, making me have to do a 5 sec forced shutdown.
Then I tried again about 3 more times...Still same problem.

I didn't get a photo, but here is an image I found on google images, similar to my situation, except for my laptop, it has stripes like that but the original image still is in the background.

I've done a clean installation of XP for now, if anyone can help me with this I'd gladly give Win7 another shot.

Thanks to everyone in advance :)

I've done about 3 installs of Windows 7 on a test HDD for testing of different programs. If you have Windows XP with SP2 installed, start the install without formatting your Hard Drive, just restart your system and boot from the disk, the XP drivers should transfer to Windows 7, then Update should install leftover needs of drivers. Or just pop in the disk and follow the on-screen instructions.
If that fails, copy the disk ISO image to your HDD and extract the contents of the image, then double-click "Setup" and the setup should start.

I'll try that on another partition and post here about how it goes - thanks :)

I think it's because of Win7 automatically finding a driver for my graphics card which it doesn't support, causing this crash to happen.

I need more help from experts. :)

Looks like your GPU is dying. It is a common problem with laptops.

I guess that windows cant load graphics drivers during setup because there is a fault with the GPU, and this causes the problem you are having.

Is there a fix to this?

Then how come XP works perfectly but Win7 does not?

Yes wipe the HD first before install using first tutorial above.

While you still have XP, make sure you have the latest BIOS version update. If so, reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

See if you have SATA controller settings in BIOS setup - what is the current setting? Try AHCI, then IDE mode.

If install fails to wiped HD, test the HD using maker's diag/repair full CD scan: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

Then test your RAM using memtest86 CD for 5-6 passes. http://www.memtest86.com/download.html

You can Backup a free Macrium Reflect image of XP so you can go back as necessary until this is resolved. http://download.cnet.com/Macrium-Re...45728.html?part=dl-6288502&subj=dl&tag=button

There are Win7 drivers as well as BIOS update on Acer support page for your model: Acer Support - Drivers & Support Documents which with a Core2Duo should ably run Win7.

Jacee's suggestion to run Upgrade Advisor from XP is a good one as it may tell you what is conflicting or limiting Win7 install.

Wiping the HD can also remove the conflicts from XP.

I gave you numerous steps in Post #10 to try to get the install to complete.

Please respond as to exactly which you tried, and if any remain to be tried.
