I have a Inspiron 530,Intel Core2 Duo processor E8200 (2.66GHz,1333FSB) w/Dual Core Technology and 6MB cache

It had Win XP on it.

HD, I think, was going bad. It was getting slow and finally wouldn't boot past Windows screen. Or it could have been the OS. Also ran virus detection and it was ok.

I bought a new HD and a new copy of Win 7 Home Premium and get the following message.

"No boot device available, Press Enter key to retry"
SATA-0 Installed
SATA-1 Installed
Sata 4 None
SATA-5 Installed

I tried another copy of Win7 and got the same thing, however it sees Puppy Linix, Ubuntu, XP and Vista.

Any ideas?

If you are using too many partitions it can interfere with things, I think windows is only set to support 4 partitions per drive.

Unplug all other HD's except target HD, which may need to be initialized in Disk Mgmt on Vista first.

Next make sure you are booting the Win7 DVD and it isn't trying to start HD instead. How to Boot your Computer from a Bootable CD or DVD

Are you getting the prompt to Press Any Key to boot DVD? What is the verbatim error message?

I unplugged the "Slave" and it now goes to "Boot from CD". I heard the DVD running and then goes to orig message. I have changed the boot order.

Not getting "Press any...."

Why would it be working with the other OSs?

"No boot device available, Press Enter key to retry"
SATA-0 Installed
SATA-1 Installed
Sata 4 None
SATA-5 Installed

Also, I wouldn't think it was the DVD ROM since it works with the others OSs.

Did you unplug all other HD's except target?

The error likely means the DVD is not booting. Did you burn it yourself? Try another using ImgBurn at 4x speed,

or extract ISO using ImgBurn and write to flash stick using Ultra ISO trial version: On File tab OPen ISO, on Bootable tab Write Disk Image, Format, Write. Boot under HD's or USB on one-time Boot menu key.

I just plugged in another DVD ROM using a USB to SATA and tried the DVD in there and it recognized it.

Must be that my DVD ROM was going bad.

Thanks for your posts. It's loading as we speak after 2 days of trying, trying.......
