Hello all , I decided to register with this forum , as i'm having trouble installing windows 7 64 bit . I'm on windows 10 64 bit at the moment , I'm not too techie smart . I built this computer after watching someone on YouTube and taking the specs of the Motherboard , Ram size i7 from a high spec gaming computer on Ebay .It works . I'v tried burning the windows dvd to disc and when I put it in the dvd drive I get a few options , what do I want to do with this dvd . Which includes options to open the exe file , but when I disconnect this Harddrive ( I have 2 harddrives ) it won't install . I burnt it onto a USB Flash Drive with another version of windows 7 but same results everytime I,v tried . i'v tried burning with IMGBURN , ULTRA-ISO I get load exe file but not on the drive I want .I downloaded the ISO file from Getintopc.com and its a windows 7 64bit . I have tried 2 different hardddrives and I think at least one of them has had windows on before. I don't know if I need drivers to help it install or what . I think before i'v just burnt the dvd on nero or something similar and it's loaded . The drive is a 2TB drive Thank you very much for any help NettleWarbler .

You need at least 1 hard drive connected to install windows, disconnect all others.

Not sure why you mention the phrase "open the exe file", you are to boot from the disc, not open it in windows.

Set the bios to defaults by hitting F5 then F10 to save and exit before you start.

Then, Just follow the tutorial, you`ll be done in 15 minutes.

Hello AddRAM , I tried putting the burnt dvd in the dvd drive to see what would happen I got the choice to install the windows dvd . So I thought when I disconnected the windows 10 drive and booted up it would install on my newly formatted drive , but no such luck . that was why I mentioned "open the exe file", I just thought it would work properly and install ..

Right that dvd was no good , this other I did gives me the Run set-up.exe option . any advice for this don't say Set the bios to defaults by hitting F5 then F10 to save and exit before you start. because I don't know if I do that before settings , in settings or after settings.

If you boot from the dvd you will never get a setup exe. (You only get this if you run the installer from within windows, believe it or not people try to do that)

You should see the words "Press any key to boot from DVD" if you don`t see those words then you are still not doing it right.

What part of Set the bios to defaults by hitting F5 then F10 to save and exit before you start don`t you understand ?

You do that before you even think of installing windows 7.

I do get the words reboot and select proper boot device or select any key Press any key to boot from DVD

That sounds like you are in the Boot menu maybe? After re-setting the bios. Or got into the boot menu instead of the bios maybe. Laptops vary as to which F key to press for boot menu or bios, but F2 is often for bios and Escape is often for Boot menu. Anyway, if you get into the bios and do what AddRam says, then use the arrow keys on your keyboard to go along to exit, hit return, say yes to changes and the laptop should then just start up again and have nothing on it, so then you can turn it off, put the Windows dvd in the drive (or usb), turn it on, and you should get to the screen that says hit any key to boot - and it will starting installing Windows. If it's a usb, you might need the boot menu to select the usb stick to boot from and then you'll get to the same thing - hit any key to boot - and it'll start installing.

no, you don`t get the words "Press any key to boot from dvd" etc when using a usb stick, you just use the one time boot menu, choose the the usb stick and the install starts.

So it's going in a loop. I don't know what that could be - maybe someone else will. Is the dvd seated in the drive properly? Sorry - that's a bit obvious and it probably is. Did you reset the bios first?

Evening all , I think i'v got the problem sorted . I decided to invest in another hard drive , even tho the 2 I have . have had windows installed before ,I put the new drive in the PC and tried different windows discs id burnt I got the same press any key !! stuff . Nothing worked , I then went to settings put the setting to USB as my booting device ( as I did before ) , I put the USB stick in the computer restarted and I got a new menu must be to do with the USB stick . I then removed the USB stick before starting the install , I then put the old Hard drive in that had been in before just to see if it would load on there . It did and its on now I have all my files and programmes to load yet , but windows seems ok . I have a double power lead ( I think that's what they're called its not the data cable ), it goes in both hard drives at once . I wonder if one of them is dodgy and it was stopping windows loading , ( Probly not tho ). Also I put both drives in and started it up 7 and 10 , and 7 loaded first I thought 10 being the latest model would have loaded first . I never tried to see if both drives were showing in my computer , what an idiot I am .

Mornin all , Windows 7 started first again this morning not that I mind its just I don't have any internet access on that drive . I started the computer last night and windows 10 started first . So I decided to transfer some folders and files from this drive to the 7 drive . All the files and folders what I had stored on the empty hard drive were as I had not installed windows 7 at all . No I had'nt been on the pop all day .I copied a small folder from my 10 drive to my 7 drive shut the pc down , and just started with the 7 drive connected . And it was installed and alright , the small folder hadn't copied over tho . So I connected the 10 drive and was able to transfer my files and programmes that way . But it definately was showing all the files and folders like it was before I installed 7 .
