Can't install Windows 7 Service Pack 1, error 800B0100

Hello

I am having trouble installing Windows 7 Service Pack 1 using Windows Update. I really want it so that I can get IE10 on my machine.

I tried the following:
1. Running System Update Readiness Tool
2. Running Windows Update diagnostic tool
3. Running Fix WU utility
4. Disabling Windows Firewall
5. Disabling Microsoft Forefront Client Security User Interface
6. Running CCCleaner and cleaning up the registry
7. Renaming C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.old. Renaming C:\Windows\system32\catroot2 to C:\Windows\system32\catroot2.old

but nothing seems to work :(.

I've uploaded a file - ktlaa.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder ktlaa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be one folder inside it ( Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder
C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

Very strange - the packages got replaced properly, but not the wrappers :confused:

I'm at a bit of a loss at to what happened there, as all the necessary files were in the upload.

Please try exactly the same fix again - you may get a prompt to over-write the files when you copy to the Temp folder, please do so, as Windows may have failed to properly expand them (I assume you did use the Windows extraction?)

Those are definitely what I posted, and since the others worked, you obviously followed the instructions.

Maybe it's a registry problem? I'll do some research and come back.

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

I think maybe I'd better have a look at the COMPONENTS hive - it may be corrupted....



Please copy the C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) to your desktop and then compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site (preferably Dropbox or OneDrive) and post a link.

Just to confirm that the patch wasn't bad, please let's try it with a new set of files....

I've uploaded a file - ktlab.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive
Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder ktlab in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be one folder inside it ( Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder
C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

If that till doesn't work, we'll have to get down and dirty with more registry work :(
