I have tried to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on my PC for 2 weeks now and every time it has been unsuccessful. I turned off the sleep and hibernation functions, as well as extended the time to 2 hours for the hard drives. I bought the CD at Best Buy. The PC locks up which seems to be about the 60-70%.I have tried the following MS fix:

· On the Advanced tab, click Environment Variables.
· Under System variables, click New.
· Type MIG_UPGRADE_IGNORE_PLUGINS in the Variable name field.
· Type IphlpsvcMigPlugin.dll in the Variable value field.
· Click OK three times to close the dialog boxes.
· Start the upgrade installation again

The PC still locks up and hangs, and when it reboots, it rolls back to Windows Vista. I tried to install it on a 320 and 500 GB Seagate. I did a Custom and Upgrade install. I thought I had a bad CD and exchanged it for a new CD and still no success. When I tried a Custom install on a blank disc, the PC would reboot and restart the installation all over again get stuck in a Loop. I even removed 2GB Ram incase I had too much RAM. I have tried all the solutions on the Windows 7 forum and HP Forum and still no luck. The PC is less than 2 years old.

Model: HP a6500f
Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP 2
Intel Dual CPU E2200 @2.40 GHz with 4.00 GB RAM
SAMSUNG HD0501LJ 500GB

I fixed all the errors the compatibility report. I am about to have stroke with all this frustration. If I had known it was so damn hard to install Windows 7, I would have never wasted my money on this program.

Any other suggestion. As a last resort I may have to take it Best Buy to have one their Geek squad try to install Windows 7. Updating to a new OS should never have been this difficult. I know I will never upgrade any of PCs again. With is problem I am even considering to go buy an Apple.

Thanks

Are you doing a "clean install" or upgrade? Have you run the compatibility wizard to ensure all your hardware will work with win 7?

re: Cant Install Windows 7 Ultimate 64

In regards to my previous post on this problem, I have disconnected all hardware. I ran the compatibility check and no errors were detected. I only had the monior attached and pulled out my firewire card. No issues noted with hardware.

I tried the Upgrade first and the PC was hanging up and not installing. It would reboot then roll back to Vista.

I tried a Custom install on a Seagate 500 GB disk and it would reboot and start the installtion all over again. It was stuck in a Loop.

How are you starting the install ? How do you have the bios boot order set ?
Have you tried taking the DVD out when it starts the reboot ?

I will try to help you with this issue. I understand that windows 7 is reluntant to install on your computer. In reguard to your issue I will try to offer solutions. First things first. Are you sure you're computer is a 64 bit? Did you double check? If you computer isn't a 64-bit then you won't be able to install the 64-bit operating system.

You can also try this if you've haven't. Put the CD in your computer and then the windows install page should appear, then click install instead of restarting your computer to install.

I'm aware that it's not a problem to do with the disk so it may be the hardware on your computer. Are you sure everything is working fine?

Are you sure you've picked up the right windows 7?

Can you offer more information about your computer model so I can help more...

Thanks!

I have done all the necessary checks possible. I ran the compatiblity check 6 times and no issues at all. Everything passed so no compatibility or hardware issues. I know my PC is 64-bit and I am using the 64-bit Win 7 disc. The BIOS is OK. No hardware is attached but my mouse, keyboard and monitor.

My pc is less than 2 years old.

Model: HP a6500f
Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP 2
Intel Dual CPU E2200 @2.40 GHz with 4.00 GB RAM
SAMSUNG HD0501LJ 500GB

I did a Custom install on a new hard drive and had no problems but when I entered the CD key it came back as invalid and tried again and got an Error Code 0xC004F061 which states Only use this software for upgrade and not clean install. There is no means to input your Vista CD key to show up have a valid upgrade. Well if I had Windows XP it stated you have to do a clean install and why not Vista Premium.

Any other suggestion
