Hi there, i know my computer is 64 bit windows compatable. At the moment i have windows 32 bit installed, as my computer crashed and i needed to do a fresh install of windows and installed the 32 bit version by mistake. I have a copy of the 64 bit windows and am trying to install it, however it keeps freezing on computer restart. I put the disk in and it installs all the necassary files, but when it restarts, it hangs on the "windows 7" screen, i just get the white writing on a black background but teh swirly things dont show up and i have to turn it off. What can be causing this as i need to install a 64 bit version so i can run the new preimer pro. (CS6)

Is your 64-bit install disk burned, borrowed, OEM, retail, or what?

Are you booting from that disc?

When you get to the screen that asks "Where do you want to install Windows", are you choosing "drive options, advanced" and then deleting all partitions?

Download a bootable linux disk - like GParted - and format the disc You want to install Windows on.

Did you download the ISO to burn the disk from mydigitallife.info??

Or from some other source?

I'd get it from mydigitallife.info---a known good source that gets the ISOs directly from Microsoft.

Reburn it at low speed with a reliable burner such as ImgBurn.

Disconnect external peripherals other than mouse, keyboard, and monitor.

Disconnect all but 1 hard drive.

See if you can get any farther. If necessary, you can wipe the disk using Diskpart, but that's normally not necessary.

In certain cases, it helps to use only 1 stick of RAM, but not normally.

Hello LoveDon, welcome to Seven Forums!

You don't need third party software to clean the HDD to start a fresh install, have a look through the information presented below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

   Information

As a start and to rule out format errors up front, boot the Windows 7 installation media to diskpart and run the clean command, once the clean finishes, exit diskpart and use the Windows 7 installer to create and format a single 100GB partition to do the install to.

If that does't work, after another clean, use diskpart to create, format and mark Active a single 100GB partition to see if that works, use Step #2 in the SSD/HDD tutorial for reference.

No. It's available from the install disk. Hit shift F10 when you come to the language screen and type diskpart at the prompt.

But it's not normally necessary.

You more likely have some other issues.

Can't hurt to use diskpart, but it may not help.

I too agree it's probably not needed; it's just another thing to check to make sure.

How do you plan to activate Ultimate?

Use the official ISO burned to DVD using ImgBurn at 4x speed.

Hi, i still have not solved this issue. I cant launch diskpart because i cant even get into the windows cd as my machine is being recognised as a 32 bit machine and it wont open teh 64 bit version unless i boot from the "press any key to boot from cd " at the boot.

When i try and do it like this, it comes up with a black screen, loads windows files (a white bar at the bottom that loads twice) and then it comes up with a black screen, with "loading windows" its at this point that i can get no further, it just hangs without the whirling windows colours entering the middle of the screen and i have to restart my computer and reload using the 32 bit version. Once i get back to the desktop it tells me that "this version of windows could not be installed etc etc".

Please help me, perhaps i could attach diagnostic information about my computer that would help you solve this issue for me?

Of course you want to "press any key to boot disk" as you must boot installer.

The installer is probably bad.

Where did you get WIn7 Pro installer, and how do you plan to activate it?

How is Ultimate activated now?

i have a cd key for it that i have bought previously, and its defo not a bad install disk. Please try and help me solve this

To be sure download and burn to DVD or write to flash stick the latest official installer with SP1 from Steps 1 and 2 in Clean Reinstall tutorial. There are other steps there to assure you get a perfect reinstall.

If this fails check in BIOS setup to make sure HD is registering. Set SATA controller to AHCI for it. Unplug or disable all other HD's.

If that fails wipe the HD with Diskpart Clean Command. But you need to be able to boot the installer to get to Command Line by pressing Shift + F10 at first screen to run the commands given earlier.

Keep us posted. We have a 100% install rate if you follow the steps closely, ask back questions, and work with us.

Well I guess you have not made any progress as you have not replied. Listen to Greg, he knows what he`s doing.
