Hello! I'm trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on my computer. Unfortunately, this just isn't happening. I put the disk in my computer and select Boot from Disk in my BIOS menu. To put it short, it takes me roughly half an hour to get to the Destination Drive screen. I chose to install it to my empty, formatted 80gb hdd. It's formatted to NTFS. I click "Next" and it brings me to the installation screen. This is where i get stuck. It says Copying Windows Files (0%).... And it Doesn't pass 0%. I don't get any error messages or anything. and i am able to cancel it so my computer doesn't freeze. So, i ran the installation on a friends computer to see if i got a dodgy disk. I booted from the disk, it prepared for install, only it took about 1 minute to get to the Destination Drive screen. Any i was only using a crappy 40gb hdd to test it, and the Copying Windows files moved from (0%) to (1%) in about 1 minute. Then it started to go faster. Unfortunately the hdd is IDE and mine is Sata. It's really frustrating and i just want windows 7! Please help :(

Make sure you have the latest BIOS version Update from your computer or mobo maker's Support Downloads webpage for your model.

Try clearing the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

While in BIOS, check the setting for your SATA controller. Try ACHI first.

If nothing suggested works, you might want to try moving your HD to another computer to install. I have had to do this about a dozen times and Win7 works fine when switched back to problem computer, after swapping out all drivers and several requested restarts. Others have not succeeded, though.

Ok well last night istarted my install and it only took 10 mins to get to destination drive screen. i used it to format my hard drive theni hit hit. immedietly Copying Windows Files went from 0% to 100% then Expanding Windows Files didn't start. I left it overnight but it didnt change.

Download and burn to CD the DOS diagnostics for your HD (Seagate=Seatools, WD=Data Lifeguard) from maker's Support Downloads page, then boot from the CD and run full HD scan.

Next run chkdsk from command prompt on your HD.

Still not working im over trying. worked on 2 laptops which mine are better. am over it. to much of a headache.
