Cant install windows seven or vista.Whats wrong?

i have installed my windows 7 in the past and today i got my pc back from geek squad this is the second consecutive time i have sent it to theam it came back from repair with windows vista on it they used the windows vista cds i gave theam but when i tryed to install windows 7 or vista the screen goes black and my laptop stops reading my disc the lcd and the cd-rom drive and the hard drive have all been replace why cant i install an operating system

So when you got your computer back from the geeks, it worked fine with Vista? Why did you send it to the geeks to begin with? Were there any hardware problems? There are several tests you can run, but first I'd like to know what the repairs were.

Also, please be specific on your HP model.

the first time i sent it in was because i would put the windows 7 or vista cd in and during the installation process my screen would flicker and go black and the pc would stop reading the disk they sent it back and said they repaired the lcd screen and the cd rom drive. i have recieved the pc from the first repair request and the same day i went to go pick it up from best buy and bring it home it was still having the same problem installing my os that i listed above so i sent it back for the second time today i got it back from the second repair request they said they replaced the hard drive this time and it had windows vista on it they installed vista useing the cds i loaned to theam but when i try and install vista or seven myself i still have the same problems i listed above the type of pc i have is an hp dv5-1125nr/core2 im not sure if that answered your question on the model

When you install Win 7, are you trying to do an upgrade or a clean install? What kind of Win 7 disk do you have? Is it an upgrade, full retail or are you referring to the restore disk?

Let's start off by flashing your firmware (bios).

**EDIT** Win 7 is supported, so that shouldn't be an issue.

i tryed to do a clean install so theres no os on the pc i read the directions for the link you just gave me and i think there would have to be a previous os on the pc in order for me to do this.

When you try to boot from dvd to install OS does it get to the BIOS/post screen?

ill try it im going to download it now i appreciate all your help lemur after it downloads and i burn it ill give you my response on weather i can boot it up please check back in the next few hours what you have done is way better than the support i get from geeksquad and im paying theam especially after one of there online reps just got a little rude with me.

one more thing the flashing of the drive does not have the potential to ruin anything on the computer does it

I would not flash the BIOS except from Windows as it is much safer.

Please describe exactly what happens when you attempt to boot the DVD to install: every step and symptom to the point of failure, and exactly what happens at failure.

Try several times if necessary while taking camera snaps or notes until you can report back the full sequence.

You are trying to install by booting a Win7 DVD or a HP factory recovery disk? Where did you get it?

After the last repair where they reinstalled Vista, was that from factory Recovery disk? What happened?

Do you know for sure they tested your hardware, particularly memory and hard drive? It's a new HD, correct? If you are unsure they tested your RAM, test it with memtest86 CD for 5-6 passes.

in the video i tryed to boot the windows vista recovery disc but i do have a windows 7 dvd and i get the same results the screen starts blinking eventually goes black and the disc stops being read i got the recovery cds from hp theam selves they sent theam in the mail and the windows 7 disc from my old college they where having a sell on microsoft software.

after the last repair they used the factory recovery disc showed in the video to add vista on it it got deleted when i tryed to clean install windows 7

and im sure they tested the new drive they game me documents stating that all hardware was tested

ya it worked it booted off a dvd disc just fine

Can you carefully remove all but 2gb of RAM to try Win7 install? Don't touch the electronics or RAM chips without touching the metal case first.

There may be something they did to get Vista installed with the same disk. Call them and ask to speak with Geek who worked on it. Say only "I guess I'm gonna have to install Vista because it's not working. Can you tell me how you got it installed? What was blocking it" Don't disclose any more because you want to leave it open to return it to them to install 7 or at least fix Vista if necessary.

I'm guessing you are under warranty for Vista which is why they put that back on.
