I trying to install Windows XP 64 bit OS on to my Lenovo R500 laptop. I have Intel core 2 P8600 processor (64 bit cpu) and 4 gb of ram. I have a 500 gb harddrive and am currently running Windows 7 Ultimate.

The installation starts as usual loading all of the drivers and files and when the bottom of the screen message says, "starting windows" I get a blue screen error message that says, "check hard drive, run chkdsk /f , if this is first time reboot, check for virii" etc.

The error is 0x0000007B!

What is that and how do I get around it?

Has Win7 Ultimate written something to my hard drive that prevents me from installing the 64 bit version of Win XP?

thanks

You probably need the SATA driver for XP. You may have to integrate them into the XP install disc using nLite

You could also slipstream SP1/2/3 ad needed into the install CD at the same time using nLite.

Curious, why are you downgrading from a working Windows 7 to an old clunker like XP? Why not leave Windows 7 and run XP as a virtual client under Oracle Virtual Box or VMWare?

Printers mostly, the three that I have are older but work fine. I keep them clean and have a small stockpile of ink cartridges. All three, two HP and a Dell (Lexmark?), did not write/compile updated Win7 drivers!

More than anything I am curious as to performance? Does Win7 address/accept more ram than Win XP pro?

BTW where can i get the Sata drivers I need? And are the regular WinXP SP's 1,2,3 compatible for the winXP 64 bit ?

I've done some slipstreaming a WHILE ago so that is probably the best way to go!

thanks for reply

I would run XP Mode in Ultimate which is included for free. You can print from it. Then you don't need to have any more than what you have now. XP is really too old to install on modern hardware.

But we may be able to find drivers for your printers for Win7, or help you install the latest in Compatibility Mode if you'll post back the exact make/model numbers.

The flag is US Florida.

I don't know where you would get a 64 bit SATA driver for XP for your laptop.

I agree with Greg though, leave Windows 7 and run XP Mode or Oracle Virtual Box and install the printers there.
You could also check and see if there are Vista drivers for the printers, they may work okay under Windows 7.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't XP 64 bit require custom drivers? As in normal XP drivers may not work? If so running XP 64 bit may not get the results you intended? And no XP SP1, 2, and 3 do not apply to XP 64 bit.

Are you booting from the XP 64 Bit CD? If your launching the install/setup from Windows 7 that may be why your getting that error.
