I am having a terrible time installing XP Mode on a brand new PC, Lenovo, Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. I followed MS and this bulletin board, instructions carefully. Can't get past this error message: The virtual machine configuration could not be created. User does not have sufficent access rights. I even tried this install as administrator.

I have tried lots of the supposed fixes that I found on the net, none worked. Help thanks
Jim

efforts made

Hi Thanks for the reply. I have checked BIOS, and visualization is enabled.
I have tried installing with Administrator log in, I have un installed the XP Mode, and tried again. I have unchecked and checked Windows features, that is, Windows Virtual PC.

My last try, the KB958559-x64,the virtual PC file, the error I get is that this not an appropriate file for this computer.

I am pretty much at wits end at this point
Any help is greated appreciated.

You may need to download and install the Intel Processor Identification Utility to see whether your CPU can run with the 64-bit Virtual PC download.

If there is a problem of that nature, you could try the 32-bit version of Virtual PC instead. 32-bit applications should work on a 64-bit system. It just means they'll be installed under Program Files (x86) rather than Program Files, which is the default path for 64-bit programs.

Ran the Intel Utility and the cpu is good enuf. Since I don't have anything on the computer yet, I was thinking it might be a good idea to just restore back to the factory defaults, and start over again. I think the pc is sick at this point with all the installs and uninstalls.

If you're happy doing that, it may be the best thing.

Just remember that you need to download and install XP Mode before you download and install Virtual PC.

I finally succeeded . Main problem was that I was not uninstalling the Virtual PC update. It is found not in programs, but in updates. Thanks to everyone
