Can't log in after modding .msstyles

When I've finished making my theme and set it all up, everything seemed great until I restarted and couldn't log in. When I click the profile pic (I don't have a password set) the screen turns black for a moment and goes back, not going to the desktop.

I can access the desktop if I boot up in safe mode. I renamed the msstyle file, rebooted and was able to get back in. I tried even opening and saving the original msstyle without doing anything to it and still the same thing happens. Upon inspecting the difference between the two files, the only thing different is graphic #508 is #10000 in the one I only opened and saved, #509 is #10001 etc. Could it be the reordering of the bitmap labels is causing this problem? If so, does anyone have suggestions?

Thanks.

Windows Style Builder will renumber the images but not normally in the 10,000 number range, zip up your .msstyles and post it here I will look at it, most likely it has been corrupted somehow and you may need to start over.

I would recommend that you start a new custom theme from scratch so you do not corrupt the original look at Post #38 Here it will show you how.

I have already backed up msstyles file so original won't get lost. The theme I'm trying to edit is already custom built by Sakuro I just wanna change some text and colors.

I just uploaded mine which I didn't change, just opened and saved. Should I also post the original?

I spent hours on it with custom bitmaps and everything. I'll attach it. Please tell me there's a way to fix it if it's corrupt. I can't do it all over again.

The difftool.exe said the only difference is all the image files are renamed. The pattern is consistent too. All the image filenames numbers have to be deducted by 9492 to be back to normal.

Is there an automated way to rename them? I've already renamed all the image "folders" in Resourcehack with a script but that was only half of the differences listed in differences.txt. The other ones I can't access with resource hacker.

Help me out here. You see how independent I am, I don't ask for handholding. I just need to know what to work on.

Don't know if i should make a new thread,as i have exactly the same problem.
Inspired by what mr.Bongo did with my Windows 8 theme i bought Ave's Style Builder and tried to do the same on my girlfriend's pc.
I messed around a bit and found what images i need to edit in order to get what i want, and when i finished and applied the theme it looked ok.But,same as BlueBonnet, when i restarted pc i couldn't log back in.
I now know that my theme is corrupted but so i tried again(following mr.Bongo's advice in this thread) but i failed again.I'm a bit pissed 'cuz i can't figure out what i'm doing wrong.Any idea what i'm doing wrong?

Welcome to the Seven Forums

You should have started a new thread.
But post your .msstyles and I will look at it.

You have 2 SIZINGMARGINS:MARGINS at Toolbars, Headers and Rebar > Rebar > NavBar > Basic > Max > Active > Background remove the second 1.

I just checked the default aero.msstyles and it does contain 2 sizing margins are not sure why so that is not the problem.

When you are editing the .msstyles do you have it in the folder with the Shell folder and en-US folder (your country will have a different name)?

After editing and saving are you applying the thing through Personalization?
