I have a Toshiba Satelite L455 Laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium. I cannot logon with a valid password. When I clicked on the red icon an update started but did not show any details. The computer will boot into safe mode but will only load a default user profile.

When I try a valid password I receive this message "The User Profile Service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded."

When I try a invalid password I receive this message "The user name or password is incorrect."

This leads me to believe that the update corrupted the user profile.

What can I do to get logged on and remove the password. This computer does not really need that protection.

Thank you in advance.

Actually I was able to restore in, Safe Mode, to an earlier Save Point. Had to click "More Points to see all save points. Could not see them earlier. Apparently, every time Windows does an update it creates a Save Point.

Thanks for your input.
By the way I did not get a Windows 7 disk with the computer and now have to create it. Takes 5 DVD's.
