Hello.
I can't open any .exe. I just can't. No error at all.
Windows + R, cmd, "no such interface supported"
Windows + R, regedit, "no such interface supported"
Try to open a software on Start Menu (Start8) "this file does not have a program associated with it for perfoming this action..."

I'm got into firefox via an .html.

I don't have any backups.

Help!

Wow, I just found a solution.
In case anyone found the thread via google, download this. It's a .reg file.

I've got the same problem as the original poster of this thread. Problem is, I literally can't do anything. My internet connection disappeared. I can't go to My Computer. I would try the .reg file but with no internet, I can't download it, or even open up a browser to download it. I can't even install it from a flash drive because when I plug the flash drive in, it doesn't recognize it. The only thing I seem to be able to do is open images and PDF files. Nothing else is opening, no folders, can't run regedit, nada.. Any suggestions for this one?

Hello MC208, and welcome to Seven Forums. :)

You might see if you may be able to do a system restore at boot using a restore point dated before this happened to hopefully fix this.

If successful, I would recommend to do a full scan with an AV program like Malwarebytes Free to help make sure your system is clean.

I'm creating a system repair disc right now as I write this.. Will let you know how it goes soon, thanks!

Trying to run system restore with the repair disc to previous points in time, however, so far the first few I've tried aren't completing. It pops up a window and says:

Code:
System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system
files and settings were not changed.

Details:
An unspecified error occurred during System Restore. (0x8000ffff)

You can try System Restore again and choose a different restore point. If you
continue to see this error, you can try an advanced recovery method. For
more information, see What is Recovery.

Should I keep trying previous restore points?

Yeah, it would be worth trying a different restore point since the only alternative would be a clean install of Windows 7.

Not having any luck with restore points, they're all giving me this 0x8000ffff error. I googled that error and it seems lots of other people get the same thing. Is this one not fixable?

Apparently that error didn't mean anything. When I clicked close and the computer rebooted into Windows, everything was fine again and it said my system was restored. My LastPass password manager wasn't working, but I just removed it and added it again and it's working fine now. Very weird stuff! Anyways, thank you for your help with the system restore boot disc :)
