Cant open files on USB , Please help me .

right click on any of the files and click Properties. Now click on Advance button under General Tab and check the status of Compress contents to save disk space" and "Encrypt contents to secure data". if these options are checked then uncheck them and then try to open the files

So these files were not created on the computer that you have upgraded but on a college computer? If so it appears the college computer was using encryption. The only answer would be to decrypt them on the college computer and then copy the decrypted files to USB.

There were also files there that were created here at home computer ,,, that has the same problem.

The files not in green you should be able to access by changing the permissions to Everyone > Full Control

You could activate Win 7 hidden Administrator account to overcome these permission issues. Open an elevated command prompt and type net user administrator /active:yes

Avery file in that particular folder ,, jpeg, pdf, word , exel, is green . cant open anything on that folder

You will not be able to open any green files until they have been decrypted.

Type cmd in Start > Search and cmd.exe will appear above. Right click that and click Run as administrator. In the cmd window type net user administrator /active:yes. Reboot and log in to the new Administrator account.

They can only be decrypted on the computer they were created on using that computer's encryption key, or using that key on another computer running the same encryption software and parameters.

ok I will have my wife take the usb back to the school and try on their computer. I doesnot even let me move the folder to another USB .
