Cant open jpg photos sent from my friend who has a mac

My friend has sent me all my pics from a recent trip to Thailand but when i try and open the files on windows 7 it says the files are either corrupt or not supported, my friend has a mac and i am wondering if this is the problem, i have tried extracting the files etc with no success, any ideas?

What is the extension on these files?
the three or four digits after the . in their name
picture.jpg for example.

there is a four digit extension i think, the file is saved on my desktop and i have attempted to compress without success.

I'm trying to determine what format this image supposedly is.

Aside from having your friend attempt to resend the photos (perhaps using a different format or a different email from which to send them), you could have your friend register for a free membership on an on-line photo site (like for example Photobucket, Snapfish, Flickr, etc.) and upload the pictures to the
on-line site. You could then download them and Voila!

Back the picture files up in a separate folder/drive, and then Right click on the picture , choose the "rename" option in the context menu, and rename the extension to .jpg or .png .

You are to back the files up, coz sometimes you may have a dialog during changing the extension name saying after changing the extension the files will not be usable any more . It is just a safety step.

If the extensions are not visible while renaming (as the general situation), Open explorer , click on Organize > Folder and search option > View and uncheck the line "hide extensions for known file types" .

I guess it will work .
